Are you the GM of a professional basketball team?

If not them you need to STFU and let the GM do his work.

First, buy a pair of these:

    It'll be a god-send for you.

Second, take a couple of pain-killers.

Then soak your foot in hot water with a lot of salt in it for about 20 minutes. That will numb it down quite a bit.

After that you should be able to get underneath the nail with those fingernail pliers I mentioned before. Once you can get under the nail you should be able to cut the ingrown part out.

That's the way I've handled every ingrown toenail I've had since high school.

I mean from my point of view it doesn't look bad anymore. Plus, it doesn't hurt like before.

This. I don't know where the "doctorphobia" comes from on CF.net.

"You cut yourself with a rusty knife and the wound is leakin out a black substance and smells like a rotten body? Don't go to a doctor, these guys just want your money. Everytime I get that kind of wound I buy 100% alcohol, a lighter, deo, knife, needle and thread, herbs I found in the woods.
This is how you do it:

Take the knife and scratch all the black fluid out, also try to cut off the rotten layers of flesh(that doesn't mean you have to go to a doc, the layers will heal after some time).
Now pour in 1l of the 100% alcohol, it will burn a bit but that is good as it kills the bacteria.
To make sure that you kill all bacteria and stop the infection, spray lots of deo into the wound and use the lighter. The flamethrower method will get rid of all potential infections as it deals with these silly little bastards.
Now take the herbs and stuff all you have into the wound, herbs are good for wounds and will heal them, my auntie told me. :)
Now use needle and thread to stitch the skin together, it doesn't have to look good, just make sure there are no holes or unstitched areas. If you see holes between the skin, don't worry and stuff herbs between them.

I always use this method and it's greatly effective, my wound went 3x the orignal size for some weeks but I used all pain killers I could find and eventually it healed.

You see, no one needs doctors and you save a lot of money. I spent like 10 bucks on this and am greatly satisfied."

Those do it yourself stuff usually works temporarily. I'd go to a podiatrist. I used to get a lot in hs and then I had a couple of small in clinic procedures. My podiatrist would do pretty much was listed on the board but the last time she did something diff. Basically numbed my big toe cut the skin around the ingrown side them cut the nail from the side and put something like a cream or something that would stop the lateral growth of my nail. Ever since then never had a problem, no pain and no restrictions. The incision wasn't that big but it didn't hurt too bad, sadly it took me a while to go fully numb but seriously just I to a podiatrist they go to basically foot med school and this is their bread and butter

I had a similar experience. Both of my toes were swollen from the lateral side. It happens when I don't use a nail clipper and use my fingernails to clip it. Soak it in water, cut the edges off from non affected area and pull down to the affected area. You should be able to pull and see how much was dug up in there. Soon after it got better.

**** getting my whole nail removed.

You need to go back. It does not look bad now because the medicine is killing the infection but it will get worse if you leave it like that. I had issues with ingrown toe nails before. I have had several procedures to remove it and it would still grow back until they removed part of the nail with the root to keep it from growing into the side. (** They do not remove the whole nail)

The reason why the doctor gave you the medicine first and told you to come back later is because they can't really get to the nail with all the swelling and the pus.
