At first, Nowitzki was winning, but all the votes from China came in and now he's dominating.

Nowitzki and Yao are totally different. I would like to have both of them on my team.

Can't Yao shoot 3's? I would like to see him just shoot one and surprise everyone.

With Rice and Mobley on our team, the last thing we need is for Yao to jack up 3s.

I think Yao's range is probably 15 to 20ft. Does anyone know if he has ever made a 3 in real game?

    Yes.
    World Championships.
They left him wide open and he just shot it and made it.
Sometimes Yao is just standing their waiting to pass to somebody. The centers don't even come out. He should just shoot it ONCE. For fun...like when we play the Cavaliers or something.

Forget for fun. "Sometimes" should be during games like the one against the Timberwolves last night where everyone was bricking wide open shots and there's no way we were ever coming back at that rate. It's not a long-shot. The guy supposedly has a decent 3-point range. Supposedly.

But I don't think we'll see that this season when he's just a rookie.

I've been wanting to see him take the open jumper on the top of the key. He can make it, probably as well as most everyone else. Who would be the rebounder if he missed? I think that is the main reason he doesn't shoot from the perimeter.
As for the 3, I remember when Dream would take one at the end of games, when all was already won. Yao needs to try it. :D

<At first, Nowitzki was winning, but all the votes from China came <in and now he's dominating.

b4 pacers game last wed., yao trailed nowitzki by 40% (20% vs. 60%) w/ around 150k ballots. however, landscape totally changed after that game. thus, i tend to believe that ppl IN NORTH AMERICA instead of china have elevated yao to that level.

<Nowitzki and Yao are totally different. I would like to have both <of them on my team.

who is better? mavs is able to manage to win most of their games w/o nowitzki while rox will be a lottery team another year w/o yao's contribution.

no offense to rockets' fans, yao is a gift for whatever team which picks him.

i am living in chicago. bulls used to be my favorite team and now it is my 2nd.:)

Hmm... a lot has been made about Yao's votes from China and all that in various polls. While I'm sure it has only helped his cause, I'd be curious to see what the N. American breakdown is like. I won't be surprised if he's getting quite a bit of support here as well. He is sort of a cinderella story and people love underdogs.

Yes, Yao can take 3s. He shot a lot of 3s back in CBA. In a summer training camp, Jordan was also impressed with Yao's 3 point shot accuracy. In the World Championship game this summer, he also made 3-point shots against USA.

I don't think Yao will attemps much 3-point shots playing with Rockets. They really need him inside the paint. The only time that I can think of is when they need a buzzer-beating 3-pointer. Steve/Yao are probably the best choice for rockets

Don't konw how many Rockets games you saw last year, but you missed one of the biggest clutch shooters on the team...

Moochie!!!. I seem to remember he made several buzzer beating threes to win games last year.

    Yes, he can!!
He shot a lot of 3s when he played in Shanghai Sharks(alomost every game). He was one of the long range shooters of the team. And it`s quite common among the Chinese centers, Wang Zhizhi also can shoot 3s.

Yao shot 40% from the 3 point line in CBA this year averaging about one 3 point shot attempt per game.

    -G'day-

Keep in mind that the international and CBA three point line is 20'6", only slightly more that the college line. The NBA line is 23'6", and 22' on the baselines.

Also, why in the hell does Yao need to take three's when he's the only guy we have with a post up game.

The notion of Ming as an underdog is ludicrous! The guy was annoited the next big thing from day 1. If you want to talk underdog apply the term to Brad Miller or Cuttino, guys nobody wanted who are just steady ballin in the mix.

Yao would shoot threes in China and in the Wold Championships. I remember watching him this summer vs. the USA and hit made a 3 pointer.
