I used to not be able to live without my cell phone. Then I went on a vacation for a week to like some mountains where cell phones aren't even needed. I realized life without a cell phone was nice and peaceful. So as soon as I got back home, I took my cell, hugged it, and never parted with it anyway.

    I didn't learn a thing.

I have a case mate case that holds my liscense and my debit card. If my phone is not with me something is seriously wrong. I no longer carry a wallet. I have digital versions of all the documents I need to carry on my phone. No phone = I'm screwed.

Over, and I do the same thing. I don't wear a watch, so my iPhone is my timepiece, and I also have several medical apps I use daily.

In short, yeah, I freak out.

If I so much as leave it in the car, I probably drop everything to go get it. I don't like not to be able to be contacted. My husband (who is under 35, and I'm a little bit over 35) will sometimes leave his phone at home on purpose if we're out together, so he doesn't have clients calling him at all hours.

I did not have a cell phone until my early 20s, even then it was a hand-me down phone for emergencies (my mother wanted me to have).

I often live my cell at home, by accident alot of the times, it's not a real bother. I still use a pay phone, sometimes.

Oddly, this is the reason I usually carry at least one on me. When on line at the DMV/Starbucks, I like to strike up conversations. Sometimes, though, that does not pan out, and awkward silence would have been better all around. Nothing better to bail out of conversations with weird people than to check your email on your phone, or pretend you're checking your email while you read the NY Times.

I have two phones. Personal, and one from work (which functions mostly as a "We can email you at two am, and we know you got it" electronic device/tether). Only two pockets. I'm always within reach.

Though, I do often find myself fantasizing, in my "F--- this, I quit!" moments, of tossing the work phone as hard as I can at the boardroom wall as I walk out.

In my dreams, Blackberries shatter into a thousand perfect little shards, each shard carrying my contented reflection. Only in my dreams.

Under 35. I don't freak out, but I do feel more "vulnerable" in that I know I wouldn't be able to contact someone in case of an emergency or vice versa. I also check my pockets every now and then to make sure I haven't forgotten my things/have had them stolen and if I have forgotten my phone on that particular day, I'll be startled by not feeling my phone in my pocket, but immediately calm down by remembering that it's at home... I don't know if either of those things that I've mentioned qualify as "FREAK OUT".

As I said, it is startling, mainly because our cell phones have become extensions of our own selves and are hugely helpful devices, but not exactly "FREAK OUT" worthy.

I still don't have a smart phone, so the only things I lose when I forget my phone are calls, texts, and a pocketwatch.

I'm 34. I used to freak out when I was without my phone but over the last few years, I care less and less. I probably would not bring it with me anywhere if I didn't depend on it for listening to audio books during my commute to work and random web searches.

I don't "freak out" but it is awfully annoying if I don't have it just for the loss of my podcasts, music, vids, art/documents, and twitter (great for keeping up with the playoffs when not home). The actual phone function I couldn't give less of a sh-t about. I rarely make/receive calls.

Under 35. No separation anxiety past a slight worry if I don't have it I will have some sort of car trouble and wish I did. Murphy's (not Calvin) Law... it's almost like I feel leaving it at home is going to cause me car trouble.

Over 35, and I consider the cell phone part of the modern death of personal freedom. I remember the days of saying "see you later!" to whoever I was with and driving off. Once I drove away, regardless of what I said, no one knew where I was, or when I might turn up, until I turned up, or took the effort to find a pay phone. That was freedom. No one could call and tell me to do anything. No one could call, not have an answer, and then bust my chops for "being out of touch," or being "stupid enough to forget to charge your phone," and all the other demanding crap people put up with now. Many see freedom with all the devices that "connect" one to everyone else, everywhere. I see chains holding me to where I may not want to be, connected to people I might wish would leave me the hell alone.

Over 35, and it really doesn't bother me at all to not have my phone with me. If I just so happen to leave it at home, oh well. As a matter of fact I intentionally leave it behind sometimes. I like being able to get out of the house, and not having everyone knowing what I'm up to.

I went to Costa Rica once for a week and Canada for a week and left it off the whole time. It was awesome. I was kind of lost on current events as well. I need some more trips like that where I can't use my phone and have a legitimate excuse.
