The Gamer's Top 25: Point Guards

    MOVING UP
    It's Steve Francis' show in
    Houston. Hakeem Olajuwon has
    trouble playing 30 minutes a
    game these days and nobody
else on the Rockets' roster can
    come close to matching
    Francis' game. With roadrunner
    speed and freaky hops, Francis
    stands behind only Payton and
    Kidd at the point ...

I guess defensive ability wasn't included in the equation [IMG]

Is Francis really bad defensively? I mean REALLY BAD?

and when posters say "potentially a good defender"?
    Don't u think that's being a little too optimistic?

Put it this way, he has lots of room for improvement.

The positive sign as I see it is that Francis improved his defense a heckuva lot over last season.
At seasons beginning he was just running around like an idiot and looking SO lost defensively. By seasons end he was at least finding a man and trying.

During the 2000 Draft Charles said that Cuttino is vital to the Rockets because he is instant offense, on both sides of the court. That can probably be said about Francis.

This is from the fantasy-league page, right? Then, it does not imply at all that he's the 3rd best PG in the minds of ESPN. Obviously, the defense and all the intangibles are not calculated.

Unless you want to worry about sub-Planck space, "intangibles" can't be calculated. I don't see how quantum physics has anything to do with this, tho.

If they could be calculated, then what would teams need scouts for?

The thread is about fantasy league ratings, how does this turn into a discussion about Stevie's D(yeah, his D questionable)? Getting ranked behind only GP and Kidd is pretty darn remarkable.

god i hate you people who say francis is a bad defender. Watch a game and realize the only weak aspect of his defense is the way he plays the pick and roll. other than that hes a fine defender

tacoma park how many games have you watched this season? Even the Rokets fans admitt his "D" is weak and it is not only the pick and roll it is the crossover, shake-and-bake, oh an ddon't foget him not getting up on a defender becuase he is scared they will blow past him. You know what is funny though at least Francis knows what the defenders think when he is coming down on them...( oh **** I hope he doesn't break my ankle) Cause I got to admitt his offense is like top 8 in the WHOLE league

treeman, I meant that the intangibles cannot be calculated through numbers and figures. Scouts aren't there to simply analyze the stats, they're purpose is to watch the player play, and use their own sense on his overall ability.

With that said, its good to see that people are giving our man Stevie some props.
