First post. Lifetime Rockets fan here and always will be. One of the things (off the court) that I hate about our franchise right now are the uniforms. I know, I know- another uni thread. We ushered in this asian-style logo and font for Yao but I think we can all agree it's time to get back to our roots. Personally, I think we should make the current mustard/ketchup alternate uniforms our official look. Anyways, seems the Pacers fans are just like us wanting to get back to a much simpler, traditional route. Take a look at what one of their fans made. I think you may like this. I know we have some great jersey renderings lately, but is anybody here capable of something like this? <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/NxgA_qqICzM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I like what he did - but good god, could that video clip have been anymore melodramatic? And how did he get James Earl Jones to be the narrator?
Nice video, horrible voice. In the comments, he said he was granted a sales pitch to the Pacers this off season. Time to get a highlight reel of our favorite options in the jersey thread together.
There's nothing wrong with their current unis.. those concepts look very tacky and dated tbh.. a step backwards...
Is he talking about logos or overcoming adversity? I am having a hard time figuring out what's going on with all of this dramatic music in the background.
I like the Pacers logo the way it is now to be honest. One of the few in the NBA that should never change.
I liked how he used the state of Indiana as the hole in the letter. I feel like I am the only one who likes the current Rockets uniforms.
The problem with these fan concepts is the organization is not going to use them for fear of being sued for stealing intellectual property. Nintendo tells people not to send them game ideas because they can't use them and won't read them.
I've liked their uniform look. Very classic "hardwood" look. Its just now there's a bunch of internet artists that ARE able to display their designs and concepts better than before. So they simply WILL find different ways to put their work out there. And people just like to complain anyway
If someone can design a new logo, look of the court, uniforms, and all that, then I could probably get in in 3d like he did. I work with this kinda stuff a lot as a hobby.
Nice vid. Sounds like he's running for president or something. That was a decent presentation though. As for the unis. I like the current one. The one with a hand in the "P" looks cartoon-ish. The jerseys are old school but no integration of the present or future. But nice try and props to him.
1) Retro hand clashes with contemporary logo 2) State shape inside letter only makes sense to people familiar with US geography (otherwise it looks like the letter has a rough hole in it), not globally recognizable and the NBA is/wants to be a global product. The other thing is that it is too small. 'Indiana' can be read from far away but you have to look close to notice the shape otherwise it kills the form of the letter. I'd bet there are people even in Indiana that wouldn't know that shape.
That's not a problem -- the team could always BUY the design from a fan and thereby OWN the intellectual property. Problem #1 is that if a team decides they want a new look, they'll hire a professional design firm to do it for them. A company worth half a billion dollars isn't going to rely on amateurs for their corporate logo, especially in a business like pro sports where logo design is critical. Problem #2 is that fan design concepts SUCK. In over a decade on ClutchFans, I've seen probably 100 uniform/logo concepts floated on here, and they were ALL incredibly naive and amateurish. The only exception was the one posted a month or two ago by someone who has a background in graphic design and is serious about doing uniform design for sports -- those were tasteful and had definite potential. All of the others were well-meaning crap. As for this guy who did the Pacers "design" in the video? Sure, it looks pretty good -- it SHOULD look good, since all he did was steal two existing professionally done designs and splice them together. It may be a good idea, but it's a mashup, and he'd be hard-pressed to prove ownership of the intellectual property in court. The video may be slickly produced, but is completely undermined by the laughably bad voiceover ("In a world... where sports logos are a dime a dozen...") and the whole thing is pure BS. Good luck with your career, Ben Phillippe.
Wasn't the dildo logo a fan design? I dont think that would be an issue. WE just have to get Les to consider the change first. It doesn't matter how great a new design is, if he doesn't want change.
Could've done without the voice over, but if it would work then I'd say someone do it! Im pretty sick of having the most boring jerseys in the league
I personally like those jersey ideas a lot. Very good blend of retro and modernizing. I just wish a Rockets fan could make a new look campaign like this.
This fan presented Houston Rockets jersey redesigns earlier in the year that were very well received by the fans here. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=216417
And fans proceeded to show their immense support by registering a whopping 39 likes on FB. Les has no other choice but to accept change now! Way to go guys!
