I spoke w/ Mark Aguire on the radio today (BAD radio)in Dallas. I asked him about the renwed I45 series and the Rocks and Mavs fighting for a playoff spot.

"The Rockets are doing some things down there, but have a ways to go to make the playoffs", Aguire. The host then blew me off and moved to the next topic.

Aguire is high up in the Mavs organization. When he blows off the Rocks like that it makes me think. Apparently no one considers the Rocks a threat for the playoffs.

Are we fooling ourselves to think the Rocks can win 45 games.

I think we can honestly win 50 games. You are fooling yourself listening to other team's management. Teams aren't made on paper, and on paper some of these teams could beat us. But things like chemistry, heart, desire, coaching, etc. can only be seen first-hand. Another team's executive looking at our team "on paper" and not being impressed doesn't concern me much. Especially when that team is the Mavericks.

I don't think Mark Aguire is just some team executive. This is a guy that has won two rings and had a hell of a carrer. Man could he score. Does no one remember the Mavs from the 80's.

The guys on this station talk Housotn sports. The fact that they didn't give a curtious "yea, that should be interesting" or anything like that makes me think we are not considered a contender (for the playoffs). He was strait to the point saying we need to do more.

I know he was a good player, but I SERIOUSLY doubt that this guy sat down and watched the Rockets a ton last year to base a solid opinion on them. Who cares what we are considered to be and what we aren't? This is all media going by "paper teams". I'm not concerned at all.

It's comments like that that make being the underdog all the more fun.

(I can just hear it now... "And that is all she wrote, folks! The impossible has happened, and the Los Angeles Lakers have been ejected from the first round by a single clutch play from Steve Francis!")

Mark Aguirre is and wuz garbage. He wasn't even the 3rd best player on that Pistons team and as far as being able to assess a team's potential, that mutt never played a full game of D in a decade of games and wuz known as one of the most selfish players in the league. By the way, did anyone catch the USA v. Canada game last nite? Steve Nash played like sh*t.

subpar point guard + mormon version of manute bol + no chemistry + r****ded coach + no brains owner who happened to win the lottery = no rings for ****** Marky

Look at the garbage players w/ big names Mark Cuban has been stockpiling:

    Laettner
    Alexander
    Vaught
    Mills
    Barros

By Groundhog Day the Mavs will be the laughing stock on SportsCenter.

Dont listen to Mark Mcgwire wannabe. [IMG]

Doesnt matter what ppl say, like francis said " We played every game close till the last minutes and we lost it". Rockets started to learn towards the end how to keep leads and finish games. This team is going to be good this year, its going to be a more exciting year than last year and thats something to say.

You should have asked him why he thinks Laettner fits into the Mavs scheme. Does he feel they needed a ball hogging, no defense playing, soft, no rebounding forward who crazy Nellie and Mark "I dominate Vecsey" Cuban think can play center? Or was it that the Mavs are incapable of figuring things out for themselves not realizing that last yr they were a pathetic rebounding team with a very soft frontcourt and just did it b/c the Lakers wanted him? I mean since the Lakers wanted Laettner he must be an excellent pick up right? The T-Wolves, Hawks and Pistons knew nothing I suppose, forget that Kevin McHale who is one of the finest basketball minds in the game quickly discarded Laettner when he came on board in Minnesota, if the Lakers wanted Laettner, he must be a stud. Maybe when Rider ends up flaming out and gets cut by the Lakers, the Mavs can sign him up also.

hey people....first of all we should have been a playoff team last year but we had the injuries to Chuck and Dream and Steve was just a Rookie....I dont see us being totall underdawgs...I wouldnt be surpised if the rockets came in like a 3-4 seed or ended up where they did last year.... I think it all depends on how well the front Court Holds up... if Hakeem can atlest go for like 16/8 and play that awsome D when he needs 2, and avg a sold 30-33 mins a game with out missing more than 10 games or so and no other major ingredients get hurt I think it would be a mjor disapointment if this team dosent make a playoff spot.

Last I checked, Aguirre didn't have the highest iq in the world and he is not susceptible to dissing the competition.

If Hakeem shows up this season - anywhere near his former (I'd still like to think of it as 'usual') self, then the rest of the West better look out...

He is an X-factor now, and the best of the West oughtta be careful.

(BRRRRRCHCHCHCHCHAAAAH... - the sound of Rockets lifting off!)

Its not like they gained much in cap space as Ceballos and Murdock would have been free agents next summer anyway. All they did was trade for a whiny, no defense playing, no rebounding, ball hogging forward who they seem to think can play center.
