Reading things like this is what keeps me from drifting to the right. Seriously, Republican politicians should be ashamed and come across as petty. With all the issues and worries in the world, they attack an egg head burro rate trying to commit to the environment?

    Why? $$$$$

It should truly make you reflect about whether the right has become an enemy of the American system at this point in history i.e. are they willing to not only NOT co-operate, but actively attack other parties in order to make Bush's reign appear better, give their candidates a chance at next couple of elections, make them able to cover up their own mess-ups with "the left screwed up too!". We've seen through their media network, which is inexplicably tightly-knit and well-organized, that they are in a full-on war against the left.

It wreaks of desparation and, personally, I think I understand why they do it. I can't imagine someone from the right with these views becoming POTUS for the next 16-20 years, given that leftist views are aligned with the views of people just now reaching voting age. It is tremendously to the right's benefit to highlight every little thing the left does wrong, to reduce the total number of voters, and to totally surrender any realistic chance at POTUS and focus on places where the success of the current POTUS can be influenced by them.

Remember, a dysfunctional and disgusting party war turns voters off.

To the people on the right, if it makes you feel any better, I think the left would try to do the same (but fail) if they were in the same circumstances.

Really basic things like this are terrible for American people. I know that it has never been done and it would be unprecedented, and figuring out the dynamics would be near impossible.. but I think it's critical that Americans find a way to ensure that parties do their job, are obedient to the people, and don't waste everyone's time with childish finger pointing. The right forms a large part of American politics and their co-operative input is essential to sustaining America through these tough times. Does the right think the left will just forget all this when it comes time? Do they not know that this is leading to sustained deterioration of relations between the right and left? Can't Americans see that the relationship between the right and left represents the cohesiveness between two massive groups of people in America? Is it ok for the parties to not care what their actions do to the people who subscribe to their parties? I suppose it would be ok if they could leave these parties and there were real alternatives, but that seems to be a couple of decades away, and in the mean time these politicians would reap the benefits of having smaller and easier-managed parties.

Theoretically, these should literally be the most obedient employees in America, and you are the shareholders. Their bias buried, their views in the trash, totally obedient and focused on ensuring compliance with what the population wants. The president of a democracy should be the most slave-driven, hard-working, obedient, opinionless, minion of a human being. Leadership and charisma are negative qualities for this job. The job of this person is to succesfully have no opinions or inclinations at all, and to be good at receiving orders and executing them. It's time to re-think the mental make-up of your leaders if you are serious about electing the head of a democracy who will do what you want. It's the equivalent of Nike hiring charismatic people with leadership abilities in their sweatshops. Would that work? Why not?

It's the responsibility of the left to ignore this bickering if there are no consequences, and the responsibility of the right to discourage such behavior from their politicians and demand that they focus on fixing American problems. There's no need to participate in the illusion that you are fighting for each other's money when the country is posting legendary numbers in military spending. Why can't you see that your country is taking on exactly all the attributes of failed empires? Out of control spending, middle and lower class fighting for money, upper class protecting their money from the local economy, major overextension outside the borders, unhappy and unhealthy soldiers, high unemployment (even relative to circumstances), non-american support dissapearing, borrowing using the country's sovereignty as collateral (hello china), etc.

When money dissapears, it says a lot about people. Some people unite when there is no money, others start fighting over the money which is left over, and then there are some who have their own money and don't give a damn where other people's money went. Some of you may know that I have 0 respect for borders, and I'm all about people. I tell you, the people of the world need you right now, and you need each other right now as well. It must be a cosmic joke that the only thing everyone agrees with is to continuously go to war and kill abroad with most of the freshly-printed money.

    End rant. Peace to all.

What do you suggest I learn about first? The amazing amount of water that is required for this technique? What happens to that water? What happens to the heavy metals that it encounters during this process? Or should I educate myself about the chemicals involved which are claimed as "trade secrets" that can amount to tens of thousands of gallons of chemicals pumped into the ground over the lifespan of a well? The coincidental seismic activity that accompanies this drilling technique? The value of water vs. energy?

I tell you what, you study up and I'll study up and then we can discuss what we learn.

    Here is the full quote:

Not a great analogy but also not horribly offensive. Substitute "gang members" for "companies" and that quote could have been said by any Republican candidate to great party acclaim.
