I believe Yao Ming's game could benefit greatly under Hakeem. Yao Ming will learn and perfect all the low post moves. With this I propose: Rockets send: Jason Collier Glen Rice Future 2nd Round pick Rockets Recieve: Hakeem The Dream 1st Round pick Raptors send: Hakeem The Dream 1st Round pick Raptors recieve: Jason Collier Glen Rice Future 2nd Round pick Rockets already have all the players they need, we don't need to add anymore. Glen Rice will get less minutes and be less effective with Posey on the team. Hakeem will give the Rocks veteran leadership. I would just feel better with the greatest rocket ever sitting on the bench and teaching the is young team, specificaly Yao Ming. The 1st round pick can come in handy later to get us a back up 2/3 guard. Raptors get a servicable big man. Collier just isn't really needed on the Rocks, but in a center depleted league, he can help another teams front court. He has a nice shot and can relieve Davis from the 5 at times. Glen will give them more veteran leadership and a 3 point threat. Rockets: Ming/Cato/Dream Griffin/Taylor Posey/Nachbar/Morris Mobley/Hawkins/1st round pick Francis/Moochie GO ROCKETS!!!! p.s. please don't just criticise and bomb the thread. If you can, please be constructive and tell why you think its a good or bad idea.
I doubt the raptors would go for this. On another note, i'm suprised that there haven't been any quotes from Olajuwon regarding Yao. You figure since he's been compared so many times to the Dream, that the media would at least ask olajuwon what he thinks of yao...
Hola... What I was thinking was Hakeem Olajuwon becoming an Assistant Coach for the Rocks...except his voice is too low. That would be great. He could teach Yao. But he already has plenty of money and he's not obsessed with the Rocks. He left us for money. I think it is a good idea...and I am not criticizing you. Now everybody can criticize me!
my personal opinion is that hakeem has no "love" for the rocket organization. not that he "hates" the team, just that he doesn't have the "rocket at heart" mentality that say rudy t does... so i would not expect him to come here and "do the organization the favor" of helping yao ming. i think he has more important *personal* things to do first.
ENOUGH OF THESE STUPID TRADE POSTS!!! Hakeem IS NOT and WILL NOT be a Rocket again. There's no need to get rid of Rice. He is the veteran of the team, sad to say, and he is occasionally good. Hakeem's salary is HUGE. Les wouldn't pay him to rot on the bench. A trade like that is stupid. Why would we give up 2 players AND a draft pick for unusable goods and a first rounder. FOr one thing Toronto would NEVER give up a draft pick, especially this year when they will probably be in the lottery. Hakeem WILL NOT be a Rocket again...DEAL WITH IT! Sorry if I sound rude, but enough, really!
I don' t mean to be rude as well, but excuse me, but isn't Hakeem retired?!?! Lets keep active bodies on the team that can actually get points. As Mr. Mooch said, "Why would we give up 2 players AND a draft pick for unusable goods and a first rounder?" He does not want to be on the team, he LEFT!!! It comes down to the fact that he did not want to be here anymore. Maybe at some point Olajuwon will give Yao some pointers and maybe he already has or is and we just don't know. Trade for him, NO!
He retired but he's still on the Toronto Raptors roster and is still getting paid. Greedy...I still remember the Back to Back Championships...
heh...really Hakeem's voice is very low and difficult to understand. Colin Pine is going to be gone soon. He's a very lucky guy.
No intention to offend anybody, I don't think Hakeem can teach Yao much. 1. dream shakes. No. Those moves can not be taught. Most of those moves are creative and instinctive responses the great players come up with in the game for the given situations. 2. passing. Yao is a better passer already than Hakeem ever was. 3. offensive and defensive positioning. Rudy and his coaching staff might be better off in this regard
You hit the nail on the head. There are very few great players who can coach because they can't put themselves in a player's shoes who will never be as good as them.
I was thinking last night (as I fell asleep) about this. What I came to was that it would be cool to have the Rockets set up a "Dream Big Man Camp" in China. Pay him out the nose and send some other retired veterans over there with him. Since Yao has to go back to China this offseason, this is the only way I could figure out to give him the quality offseason training he needs. It would draw better competition for Yao practice with as well. It would draw the best players form that part of the world as well as some NBA types and Euro league guys. I know this won't happen, but I still think it is a good idea. The Chinese would eat it up as well. Former Rocket great teaches Future Rocket great in China! Maybe we could take Collier and leave him there.
It would be a nice idea but I think Yao is SMART enough to learn on his own by studying other great centres also so that could make him into a lethal weapon.
Well he does not have the speed of Hakeem Olajuwon. I guess he should follow Sabonis's style as well as Alonzo Mourning and some of the slower guys. Yao is very intelligent.
You miss the point. Hakeem with his pseudo retirement won't demand minutes any more. Glen still does. With Posey we will not be able to give that time to Glen. This gives Nachbar a chance to play and become the three point threat that Glen is. Then you get a 1st pick, which will be more useful than Collier or the second pick. You rid two lessers for a greater. We don't need all these players. We trim the roster for our team with Posey and get a useful 1st round pick. What good does Collier do on the bench. How effective will Glen still be. It comes down to this. Dream won't demand min cause he won't play anymore. Without Glen, Posey will take over and Nachbar will develope. Then we get a 1st round pick. They get a servicable big man and a 3 point threat.
Actually after the wiz game, in an article on Washington Post, Wiz assistand coach joking, since China basketball system yield such good player, such as Yao. They will send Kwang and Hellwood to China during the summer to work on fundamentals.
Why would Toronto send us a first rounder for veteren that can't help them in the long run and a center that isn't any better than what they have? Raptors are so over the cap that Olajuwon or Glen coming off won't mean a whole lot. And from our side, we need Glen Rice. He's by and far the smartest player we have.
