Finally, I'm no expert, but how often have 10 million people tried to access a site at the same time? It was probably more like 10,000. It just got spun to 10 million. You're absolutely right. I guarantee you there isn't a site in the world that's EVER had 10 million simultaneous hits. It may have been over a day or something - but this is also the equivalent of Yahoo China, so I'm betting that number includes ALL visitors to that site that day, not just people chatting about Yao. There has never been, and there will not be anytime in the near future, a gathering (or attempted gathering) of 10 million people on the internet in one place. That was a fun idea that somehow got misinterpreted somewhere along the line and now is "fact" according to the media. It's the Fallacy of Misplaced Concreteness in action. To expect China's population to suddenly overwhelm US voting is ludicrous. The sport's not nearly as popular there, the access to internet & voting is likely much, much less, and while the Chinese assuredly love Yao Ming, there probably are a ton of Shaq and Kobe fans out there too, so there'll be votes for those guys coming from China as well.
Today (right now), in China, on the home page of "THE" sohu.com Has the link to the following news: http://sports.sohu.com/41/61/news205116141.shtml Mentioning that Yao Ming is lagging 9787 votes behind....... Hope this should motivate some Chinese Fans to get into action.
Here in china,we get 2 positions for the vote. Some say that they would vote yao several times 1 day. The others say they would rather vote shaq coz by now shaq is still the best C. Yao is a super-star in China now just like shaq in US.The cable TV rebroadcast yao's game every week. At least 300 million people watch his game by this. Just think that if 1% of them vote yao ... So think what happened... on the other hand, at least 300 million people r the rockets fans
I am still confident that Yao not only gonna start for the western all-star team but also he's gonna get more votes than kobe. Now that Yao's behind in the vote the chances are good that Chinese basketball fans are gonna start to vote in large number now. There is a poll on the nba.com asking ppl who is the best international 7 footer. Yao used to trail dirk by 20+ percentage points and now he's ahead.
all right !!!!i and my 10 friends voted for Francis ,Yao and Mobley yesterday. we love them, and we like the other members of Rockets.
I can't beleive that Francis is so far behind Bryant. The year that Francis is having, on a winning team you would think that he would be the leading guard; in votes.
suprised.....We'll see how it goes a lil closer to the break, China betta wake up and help da big man out......Yao and Steve at the game.....not bad representation!!
hmmmm,, I dunno, let's keep voting. and also, Francis has less votes then kobe because kobe is,, for now, one of the most famous athletes in the world,, and even if his number's weren't better, he'd probably lead,, anywyas,, I hope francis and yao start,, but I think it'd be kool if yao was even on bench, picked by coaches..
Unfortunately, the reality of the all star voting is not about who is doing what. It is who the fans want to see play. Vince Carter(injured mostly this year) and Michael Jordan(stats are not as good as other guards) will be playing that weekend not because of their stats but these are the players the fans want to see. This type of unfairness also works for our favor. Ming might be the starting Center for the west for the same reasons. Enjoy it!!!!
AS part of every broadcast to China of the Rockets Games we should include on OUR time in Chinese a message reminding all chinese to vote for the NBA All Star Game. In that way we are sure to reach a huge number of Yao Ming/Rocket Fans.
Yesterday during the game, I think either Bill or Calvin said that they didn't count the Chinese vote yet. Also on another board a fan mention that during the Clippers game on ESPN they also said that the ballot results didn't include the vote from China. If that is the case then there is no chance for Shaq to start (unless the Chinese fans vote for Shaq more than for Yao in which I seriously doubt). Not sure how accurate this info is but I just want to passed it along.
You know, for all this international balloting talk, I really hope the people overseas get a chance to actually WATCH THE ALL-STAR game. It would be such a pity if people got to vote but did not have the opportunity to even watch the game. One thing that pisses me off is how the NBA has tried to monopolize any audio streaming of regional games over the Internet. Last I checked radio was free but when it comes to these games, I guess the NBA wants no part in broadening basketball's appeal w/o some money coming their way. theSAGE
