Shaq some some class today. When Shaq was ask that he is only lead a rookie (Yao) by 9,000 vote and with a billion people in China there is a chance that Yao will be voted in. They ask Shaq what would he do? His reply was he will gracefully congratulate Yao and his country. They ask in that case would he go to the all star game. Shaq reply was he will be honor to go. Look like Shaq hads tone down since the day he said he will introduce an elbow to Yao's chest. I think deep down he had respect for Yao.

I guess you did not surf Chinese sport websites. Otherwise, you must know that A LOT OF sport & basketball websites have a direct link to Chinese vote webpage. This is definitely a fake number. Maybe 10 Chinese votes is the same as one English vote.

It is impossible just to get even 400 thousand votes from China. From the marketing stat sheet, there are 11 million people from China turned on while playing rox games. However, as we all know that, one of the major voting group are university students, and most of time there may have at least 20 students share only one TV, coz they all live on campus. Even only with 50 million university students, there will be more than 500 thousand votes. Man, basketball is VERY VERY popular in China!!

Actually, I care about all-star, but I care more about winning the rings.

Oops, miscalculation! There are no 50 million university students in China. but still... the stat looks quite not possible

I really don't see how Yao is not killing everybody in all star votes with all the support he has in China, the love from Rockets fans, and the start of all the national attention he's getting.....don't be suprised when he ends up with more votes then Shaq and starts at center this year. I'm so glad Steve will be the starin PG, 2 Rockets all-stars is awesome, both starters would be a great, late christmas present.

For Yao's starting in All Star, I will continue to vote, three times a day.
At least, 100 more votes for Yao is guaranteed, if votes from china count.

    haha, Yao£¬ don't worry.
    We are bros.

I wonder where did channel 2 news get that tidbit from? What's their source?

The number of votes for Yao ming is surprisingly low given there usually are several million votes on the past polls conducted by sina and sohu on popular topics. The 470,000 figure is really low just for Shanghai alone.

On the other hand I just visited sina and sohu and I don't see them putting up any effort to get out the votes. There is no link to the nba.com vote url any where on their sites that I can find. Very strange... are they not getting the msg that Chinese fans are allowed to vote this year?

Without stretching too far out into the future, Yao and Francis are totally lookin' like potential permanent All-Stars, ala Stockton and Malone (shhhh, I don't want to piss off the "We Hate Utah" Posters):( But the nice thing about this whole situation is that they go as a pair and hopefully will forever be viewed as "a pair."

As for Shaq... I caught those comments too on ESPN. That was very courteous of him. I guess LA's troubles have humbled him. Else, he's really growing into a "classier" athlete. I like that! As an aside, and not to digress, but Shaq SHOULD be happy that he has Yao as a future opponent. For once, in a long time, Shaq will actually have a team and a player who will play him straight up w/o any of this "Hack a Shaq" nonsense. That's a positive, I would think.

    Oh well.

Keep those votes coming in people.

In china, everybody know they can vote for Yao, but they dedide to wait and see, people like me keep telling them not to vote for yao now. We don't want to make Yao laughable , as Yao keep improving, votes will come, countless.

If Sina.com put the voting url and instructions on their sports front page Yao ming is guaranteed to have at least couple of million votes. Why aren't they advertising this?

Is there a way for anyone to contact the editor of the site (email, letter)? If they cannot read English, it could still be useful to some of the Chinese on this board who could also suggest the idea.

I just visited sports.sohu.com.cn. There is a poll about Yao Ming. Don't know how old it is, but it has to be fairly recent since the poll did not make sense in the biginning of the season. It currenly stands at 383k votes total.

40.83% says Yao Ming will lead the Rockets to NBA finals.
44.07% says Yao Ming's game will have up and downs.

I would say at least 40% (156K) would voted Yao to the NBA all-star. Most likely fans don't know the NBA link.

    Totally agree, Cat.

Consider it done. I DO however like the earlier explanation that Chinese fans are just waiting and seeing... last thing they need is Yao to "flop" ahead of All-Star weekend, but that scenario seems highly improbable, IMO. But you know what I find most exciting? And what probably has most NBA personnel tickled silly? The thought that with an extra 1M ballots of interested "overseas" peoples, you're gonna also get 1M votes across the board for each of the other categories - 2 Forwards, 2 Guards.

I think it's inevitable how big bball is gonna blossom in the Far East... as it has in Europe, and that's only gonna make for even more interesting possibilities in the future.

I'm all for national pride and the Olympics, but c'mon, let's fact it... the NBA, much like the USA is THE BIGGEST MAGNET in the world for talented hard-working people. We are a reflection of pretty much EVERY culture on this planet. And if you think about the "makeup" of the NBA in the future... it looks really really exciting.

OK, last blurb from me before I call it a nite....

Any of you folks check out the Eastern Conference Balloting for Center??? It's absolutely pathetic!

They have Ben Wallace as the leading vote getter for a position that he's not even a "pure player" for. Number 2 is crotchety Dikembe who's as agile as the tin man from the Wizard of Oz. Sadly, one of the guys I think is MOST UNDERRATED is not even on the list...

    Cleveland Cavaliers, Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Despite their poor record, I think this dude deserves some acknowledgement. I guess Cleveland isn't a big enough market to command the attention.

The leading Western Conference voting race is going to get ridiculous, LOL. I hope its not another "chad" issue like they had in the presidential election. Will the league pull a Florida on us with a controversy of lost votes??? Well atleast its electronic and there is little room for cover ups..........GO YAO MING!........b/c shaq is talking and crying too much now.......and he actually gets the ball all the time.

I completely agree, and they are bright enough to post and get a response from someone who can help them...

Ok, so i'll concede to you that language is a problem for some...but come on, that will not prevent millions of chinese bastkeball fans from voting for Yao !

If Yao does not have 3 million votes at the end of the voting period, something will be very fishy

    First,

I think it's simply maavalous that Yao is even as close to Shaq as he is..
but that doesn't mean we shouldn't continue to vote....vote early, vote often..

    Second,
I heard early on that the NBA was making a Chinese version of NBA.com. Has that happened? If there is one, is at only accessible thru the standard nba.com?

The reason I ask is that if it isn't only accessible thru NBA.com, why would the supposed inability of the Chinese to read English be a barrier to voting?

    Just a thought..any answers?
