i liked live free or die hard. i definitely thought it was better than 2. and saying it's worse than 1 and 3 is more of a compliment to 1 and 3 than any putdown to 4. you're just not going to top the original. i still laugh at "no f***ing **** lady, does it sound like i'm ordering a pizza."

Beg to differ. Die Hard 2 was the lowest of the low.

One of the worst premise ever, they couldn't get a hold of regional traffic center to alert the airliners and divert them to other airports??? John Mclane's wife is on a plane with 90mins of fuel??? 90 mins at 500 mph????? You mean to tell me that's not enough time to find an alternate somewhere???

Die Hard 4 was absolute trash but all the other ones were pure gold. DH2 was the weakest of the first three but I still love it. I think it's a tad bit underrated.

I wasn't a big fan of DH3, actually. The whole car chase thing for one - it had been done by so many other movies when the action pieces in 1 & 2 were pretty original.

By the time 4 came around, I was comparing it to other action movies produced at the time - and it killed them. Just so much better.

The PG13 bit is sacrilege though. There's no question in my mind that a Die Hard should be rated R.

Absolutely. If I were you I'd stop whatever it is you're doing and start watching Die Hard now. Simply action.

I saw Die Hard 2 on TV a few months ago after not watching it for 20 years. It was weird seeing Bruce Willis smoking in the airport.

I've never seen any either. Could never take Bruce Willis seriously and I HATE that Apple computer guy that was in the recent one. Plus my 80's movies phase died when I was 16 and somehow I didn't sneak any Die Hard or that cop movie with Mel Gibson in. I did manage to account for all of the Van Damme movies though. I guess I felt Die Hard was that level of movie, somehow snuck past the 80's, and reappeared for no good reason (along with the Impossibles or whatever).

Any Die Hard > Any Van Damme film easily. The Van Damme and Seagal movies of the 80s and 90s are kind of just products of the time. They're representative of many action movies from that time period. But IMO, Die Hard is a classic and doesn't feel as dated as those other films.

A few years ago, Entertainment Weekly called Die Hard the best action film of all time. OF ALL TIME.
