After looking at the line up I came up with some figures. Olajowan 9pts. 5reb. 1asst. 1blk Taylor 18pts. 7reb. 1asst. 1blk Williams 12pts. 4reb. 2asst. .5blk Anderson 12pts. 4reb. 2asst. .5blk Francis 19pts. 4reb. 8asst. .5blk Cato 8pts. 7reb. .5ast. 2blks K. Thomas 6pts. 5reb. .5asst. 1blk Rogers 5pts. 4reb. .5asst. .5blk Mobley 18pts. 3reb. 3assts. .5blks Norris 2pts. 1reb. 1asst. 0Blks. Total points per game 109pts. The 8man rotation scores 102pts. per game. Total rebounds per game are 44 rebounds. 8-man rotation gets 39 per game. Total assists per game are 19.5 assists. 8-man rotation gets 18 assists per game. So could a team scoring 102 pts, get 39 reb, and 18 assists get far in the playoffs. Of course the whole defense aspect is missing from this scenario. Ah, but are these mock numbers realistic for the Rockets? Who do you think I inflated their numbers or didn't give enough credit to? Or do you agree that these are all realistic stats for all these players? ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
is that like at the least? olajuwon will get more than 9 points and i really beleive francis will get more than 19 ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
I think that is realistic and at the least of course. Hakeem will get his points by going after rebounds and putting the ball back in. He'll get a couple of jumpers, but don't expect 20 pts. he was a staple of. And Francis, the reason he scored so many points last year was because he and Mobley were the only options. I expect him to get more assists. Therefore, I don't see his point production decreasing but I do see his assist going up. The Francis improvement will come in the assist department. Don't be surprised if Francis gets close to 10 assits per game. ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
I'll do my own mock in just a second. However Vince, I do remember you saying you did not watch the summer leagues, which means you haven't seen Langhi actually play (and Rudy's quotes on him too) Expect him, not Rogers, to be the backup SF this year. He will blow Carlos away, trust me on this. (I know you haven't seen him) ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? nobody's in double digit rebound? Why would Francis' rebounding statistics decrease? ------------------
Here's how I see it going: Starters C- Olajuwon (12 ppg, 7 reb, 1 asst) PF- Taylor (18 ppg, 8 reb, 3 asst) SF- Williams (11 ppg, 4 reb, 2 asst) SG- Anderson (14 ppg, 5 reb 3 asst) PG- Francis (21 ppg, 8 asst, 6 reb) Bench Cato (10 ppg, 7 reb, .5 asst although expect BIG jump if Hakeem goes down) Thomas (4 ppg, 5 reb, .3 asst) Langhi (7 ppg, 2 reb, .4 asst) Mobley (17 ppg, 3 re, 2 asst) Moochie (5 ppg, 4 asst, 1 reb) Collier (6 ppg, 4 reb, .3 asst) 12th man not likely to see any time. This would be 115 total points, although we would not average 115 of course. Some of these players stats (esp. bench guys) I estimated thinking at some point they would have a 5-10 game stretch where they might be starters due to someone else's injury, which would pad their stats a bit. I think your numbers are close, although personally I'd bet on this as a little closer to each of our players actual stats for this year. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? the cat's is alot more realistic ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
Don't get angry Cat, I REALLY like Collier, but I find it difficult to see him averaging more than 10-12mpg over the season unless we have SERIOUS big man injuries. I just don't think he'll get 4 boards in 12 minutes - make it 3 and I'm sold Also Taylor won't get 8 boards - more like 7 ------------------
Collier is an excellent rebounder- he led the ACC in boards. Personally, I think it's likely that Hakeem will be injured at some point this year, and if Cato is not up to par offensively, you may see a lot of Collier at center for offensive purposes. I think that might drive his rebounds up to 4, although perhaps I'm stretching just a bit. I think he will be close though. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? Hakeem will probably get 12 points some nights 5 the next . Franchise should rack up a few Triple Doubles and Mo will probably have 1 too . ------------------ President of nothing [This message has been edited by moestavern19 (edited August 29, 2000).] [This message has been edited by moestavern19 (edited August 29, 2000).]

I am glad to see that though you all don't agree with my precise number you guys do expect close to the same result from certain key member of the team. Of course the team anchors are Francis, Taylor, and Mobley. They key role players with star potential are Anderson and Williams. And the Once Super star of the League will still hold his own and expectations are beleivable for Mr. Hakeem Olajowan. Cato, Thomas, Norris, Langi, Rogers, and Bullard will anchor the cabouse. And "Cat" I really hope you are right. If Langi and Collier can really step in and play; this team becomes so much deeper. On the Langi front I won't disagree. But, Collier, I've got to see him, can he hold his ground in the post? This is my argument that this Rocket team is definately a playoff contender!!! A championship contender without the experience?????? Can it be done in so little time??????? Ah, I'm getting carried away here. Being a playoff contender satisfies me for right now. ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.

Come on a few more points per game and we are the Nuggets or Warriors of the late eighties early ninties, plus we have the D to match. ------------------ Discombobulation Imminent
Why does the Defense question always pop up? Is it because maybe that's the #1 compliment to a championship team!!!! Let's analyse the defense. Anderson is a defensive player. Francis has shown potential. Mobley was highly regarded for his defense before this past season. Cato can be a defensive presence. Hakeem is still a defensive presence. Taylor and Williams; well there is no hope on that front But now at least there is something to build on. The offense looks steady; lets leave it up Rudy to work on the Defense. ------------------ The guns are cocked and the soldiers are in place, it's time to march and let the battles decide the war.
I don't see Mo getting more than 15 pts. When mo is on the floor he will always be the 3rd or 4th option. Its hard to imagine him getting that many points unless he becomes more of a black hole than Othello. I expect that our 3 guards will average close to 60 pts, 14 rbs, 18 ast. On some nights these 3 will go off for 70 or more. Lets see what the high for the year is. I really expect these 3 to be one of the best backcourts in the league and carry this team. ------------------ "Chucky who? I thought we were talking about basketball?" Vince, I love it how Stevie, Wizard, Shandon, Cuttino, and Carlos Rogers are gonna average 5 blks a game to lead the team..... ------------------ "See they pick and pick and pick. Man they picked me to death." -Steve Francis on the Utah Jazz
You are all very optimistic about Collier I see. How is he going to average 6 ppg from the PINE?? ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
