Actually, I think the votes are fair ... I'd rather have fair votes, than everyone saying they are skewed by the Chinese population...

But, michecon makes an excellent point. A lot of the Chinese from China may not be able to read the NBA.com English website, know to go to the flashing chinese link, and may only be going to Chinese sites talking about Ming. I speak English, and I'm excited about Ming. I don't go to Chinese websites to find information on him, I look for American information. This is pretty fundamental...

Also, its not that hard for the NBA to read where the votes come from, even from those who erase cookies, so there may be filtering going on to stop those who are making multiple votes. I do data mining, and sometimes its easier to let people think they are succeeding, so they don't try to figure out the next angle. A lot less work.

Most importantly, and perhaps those who are Chinese can correct me on this point, but, many Chinese go to internet cafe's rather than their own computer. If you had a thousand people vote in one day at one internet cafe computer, it would only register one vote, and everyone after the first vote would be confused, making it a hassle, and not something people keep coming back to do, since it didn't work the first time.

This really doesn't surprise me at all, and actually may be good. And as long as Ming and Francis are in the All-Star game, there also won't be a backlash that there could be, if they totally dominated all votes.

We want Yao to a starter. Let's get onlin, go to the games, get to the stores, and VOTE!!!
It is still NOT too late. Even Florida could not miss vote by 100,000. I suppose. :D

Get out the votes!!!!
Mobilize your resources!!!!

It's pretty cool to have two Rockets in the All Star Game right behind Kobe and Shaq. Last year, Steve Francis just stunk in the All Star Game. Hopefully he will do better. And hopefully Yao and Shaq won't get in a fight.

Good point about the internet cafes... It is still wondeful that Yao has gotten this many votes after just arriving into the NBA. He has only been here for a couple of months...impressive

I vote every day. It takes two seconds. Only problem is that you have to vote later and later every day because they only let you vote every 24 hours.

Another point to remember (maybe it was mentioned) is that the Chinese are not used to voting! ;)

one thing I would like to point out is most of the basketball fan in china don't like shaq. so even their favorate is kobe, iverson, carter, that do not affect them to select Yao.

lol Micah...I like that one.
China banned all NBA games with WangZhiZhi in them...

China is only going to send tall guys... the short guys can play but they are too small.

Anybody know of a place (besides a Rockets game) that you could get a bunch of paper ballots? I'm getting tired of deleting my cookies...

chill! I find this discussion amusing. Why is this such a surprise? Here are a few things you need to know about china and chinese sports fans:
1) soccer is #1, yes, still
2) chinese fans are not as naive as you might want them to be, or should I say, more sophisticated? I have read numerous messages that fans explain why they are holding back their judgement on ming.

Because of (2), I am confident that ming will surge past shaq, as long as he keeps doing what he has been. BTW, I don't buy the notion "english web site" somehow discouraged the fans. Which chinese site does not urge fans to vote?

Um... that's a pretty bold statement. I'm not sure Shaq is the most recognizable name in the league anymore, or at least not for long. Do you realize how much attention and publicity Ming's been getting this season? He's VERY marketable, especially considering his audience (which is a big part of why he's getting so much attention of course). That's why I don't understand how it could be any kind of "conspiracy"... wouldn't make much sense for the league. And for Ming to be that close, a lot of his... ethnic supporters have to be helping out, just not as many as we may have hoped, otherwise it wouldn't even be close cuz there's still a lot of domestic Ming-haters. Believe me, I know them.

How do you do that anyways? I don't like voting once every 24.5 hours (have to wait a little after the time of the last vote).

Yao has already secured a spot in the All Star game. No other center can beat him now...

GO STEVE FRANCIS!!! Don't forget about him!

Are they doing that by hand? If you vote through the website, they should have got the result in seconds!

Well, maybe they are doing it in Flor. :D

I still disagree with Michecon....they have their own sites with direct links to the voting page. Most of the people who follow the NBA know just enough english to vote...

and i've just visited the shangai sharks page and found what i was looking for :D

Here is one of the most popular sports site in China (a lot of W&S's photos was from there)
http://sports.sina.com.cn

I don't see a direct link or anything for all-star voting.

Here is a comment form the comment page of sina:

You can check it from http://comment.sina.com.cn/cgi-bin/comment/comment.cgi?channel=ty&newsid=362497&face=face3&style=1

Here's a reference number for teh fan voting: Back to the days to great debate about Wang's summer. There was a poll on sohu.com asking for poeple's opinions. Within days, Millions have voted.

You can have your own opinion

I also like fair vote as long as Yao get chosen in All-star game. If Yao Ming doesn't get the starter vote, will he still be chosen??

It will be fun to watch SF and YM play together in ALL-star game. Cat may be jealous at the moment though. :D
