I think the Laker fans want that also in hopes that it will piss off Shaq and force him and the Lakers to play better.

    471 000 votes ?! Get real !

This is a major NBA scam !

Figure this one out, you probably have 250 000 votes from the Houston area. Add another 50 000 asian americans...Add people like me, who are neither Houstonians, nor Asian yet voted about 20 times, and i'm sure there are a lot of those...Then consider there are 11.5 million chinese people watching every rocket game. You mean to tell me less then 1% of chinese basketball fans voted for him ?

Unless internet votes have not been tallied yet, i don't buy this at all...

Ben Wallace got almost as many votes....This is a load of bull...

If your server can't handle 10,000 hits simultaneously, your server sucks mucho mucho a-s-s. 10 million is a believable # to crash a server. We aren't living in the computer stone age anymore people!

Ok, if 10 million showed up for a chat about Yao(still don't believe that), how come we haven't heard of at least 1 million chinese fans visiting the Rockets' or NBA website? Wouldn't all those rabid fans want to check out official stuff?

    Chamberlain....

In his rookie season in NBA, he scored 37 ppg, plus 27 rpg, which all topped the whole league....

MVP of the season & MVP of the allstar game & best rookie of the year......

sounds Yao stands not even 1% chance to overwrite these records......

Way to use your American thinking :p

How many Chinese are comfortable reading ENGLISH websites?

Now, think about it, this may also be one of the reason the numbers are not as expected--assuming these numbers have any credibility.

Wait until NBA and Rockets have official Chinese webpage. :D

Remember this is just early results and it might not even be the full totals from begining to yesterday. I'm sure the N.B.A. wants everybody to keep logging on to their site and vote over and over again. Now what better way to do it, but by posting just a portion of votes. This way it get Laker fans trying to widen the gap, Rocket fans trying to catch up and the same with every other team's fans.

I am a little suprised with the Kobe's votes. What about 300,000 more than Shaq? I would have thought they would be about the same.

please don't let Yao play rookie game, that is like put shaq with the rookies, he will destroy everybody, maybe score 50 point in a ease and win the rookie MVP

Many fans from China probably voted for both Francis and Yao Ming, since they became Rocket fans as well as Steve fans after Yao joined the team. However I just want to say that the reality is in China not everyone likeas Yao Ming. I'm a Yao Ming fan, but I'm just being objective. Many in China would probably think it's silly to vote Yao MIng a first year rookie into the all star game and many think he's been hyped way too much by American media. If you ask most people in China who their favorite player is, they would probably say it's Kobe or Iverson. Just my two cents.

    Exactly!
This is what the situation is.

As a Chinese, I definitely agree with you!!

Another common mistake is about the internet population in China. Is it really more than 20 million? or the figure is just another trick of the official statistics?

Think about it. The Chinese voters must meet some others presuppositions: 1, they must love NBA, or at least love Yao wholeheartedly. 2, they must have the willingness to vote. even the process will only take 5 mins, not all the internet users can stand it.

After these elimination, the result is quite logical actually.

Brrrrr....Wrong answer ! Then why do 11 million people watch every rocket game ? The numbers are not even close when it comes to non-rocket games

Brrrrr.....Wrong answer again ! There is a link to Chinese language help page for the votes. And how hard is it to understand ? Has anyone not figured out they needed to click on the check boxes to select a player ? Come on, they're Chinese, not stupid...

But it is true in China. If the Chinese cannot read English, is it that possible that they will enter the NBA website, a pure English website? Even it is possible, how high the possibility is?

Urgh, pardon smartie. First of all, Oski was mainly talking about Rockets.com and NBA.com site.

Second of all, to find the link, you need to logon to a English site, which is NBA.com, then wait for that flash thing turning Chinese--if you are familiar with the language enough actually know where to look to.

Did you actually try that? I do!!!

Now try to go to the Chinese website of Shanghai sharks, try to pull out some Yao Ming highlights out there, some of them are in English, I'm sure you are ssmart enough to do that in a minute ;)

I think it is by votes of NBA coaches, not just by one coach.

Anyway, I think if Yao keeps the current pace, he deserves to be selected as coaches' choice.

Cuttino Mobley (Hou) 68,016. My guess is 75% of the votes are from Ming's fan, assume they are all from China?

Well, if not as a starter, I'd prefer it if Ming didn't play at all and took the whole weekend off to rest.

Besides, he's the 4th leading vote getter in the West and the 7th in the league. From now on, he's going to be the starter at C for the rest of his career.

BTW, here's something interesting: He has more votes than Francis.

The way it's looking, Francis and Ming will be All Stars for the rest of their careers together. That's unless Lebron James is drafted into the West. Then Kobe and James will take over.

BTW, I don't think it's too late for Ming to catch up, and I don't think Shaq will want to play in the All Star game. I also think it would benefit the league if both Shaq and Ming were there, meaning, they'll "suggest" to the coaches to choose Ming as a backup.

    It's a win-win situation for us.

*Note: Damn, forgot Ming will have to play the Rookie vs Sophomore game.

Is there going to be a dunk competition?
