I'm one of the biggest Lowry fans on the board, personally I trust him more than Dragic. But the Rockets need to take some risks. If we could move Lowry for Reke you do it. Tyreke is extremely talented. Yes he is a ball hog who takes terrible shots, but that could change under the right coach/ system. He needs to get out of that joke of a franchise.

Yes it's a risk, but risks can get the Rockets out of mediocrity. Playing it safe wont.

The point I was trying to make is that you can't just throw minutes at every draft pick and expect them to always grow.

There are those who become great getting a ton of minutes as rookies, true. Many of them, in fact, since most high potential players are drafted early by bad teams who have minutes available. But there are also others who develop into stars while playing limited minutes in the first year or two of their careers -- Kobe, Nash, Jermaine O'Neal and others are examples. You also have those like Evans, Isiah Rider, etc whose growth are arguably stunted by being given too much too soon.

Throwing a guy entitlement minutes is not the only way to develop a player, and may not the best way depending on the individual and situation involved.

Teams give up on good young players too quickly, is he an elite player? No, but he could be with the right attitude.

Unfortunately if you are the Rockets these are the kinds of risks you have to take because we aren't getting on in the draft.

How about trading Lowry for Hassan Whiteside? Yes, Whiteside sucks, but that could change under the right coach/system. And it's a risk as well.

I know it's disingenuous, but that's pretty much how I view Evans - he's a worthless player with no learning curve, bad feet, and has gotten too much too soon. He'll be lucky to reach Franchise level, and the Franchise was a terrible basketball player despite his flash.

Rarely do I agree with you but this is true. Reke's talent will not be found in the 13th and 16th pick range in any draft. Trust Morey all I want, those picks should be packaged for a true commodity.

He has physical talent, but so does Terrence Williams, who has frankly looked better in SAC. And we know how Terrence worked out in Houston.

I don't like him that much, but depending on what we give up, it could possibly work. Hou and Dallas picks, Ppat, and Bud for him? The best scenario is he figures it out. The worst is that he doesn't and we tank out the season for one of the many Centers in the 2013 draft.

This is the type of move we have to jump on..good talent who has a high ceiling...maybe a change of scenery is all he needs...in a league where there's a ton of inflated contracts this guy is affordable...who wants to go into another season and predict 9th/10th seed year after year....break up our current core and start making things exciting here for once past april...

Looking at the stats, I actually don't think Tyreke Evans is a ball hog. His usage rate is 22.8, 24th for his position. The problem is that he's very inefficient. I am curious to see what he could do on a good team.

    I completely agree.

I've never really been a fan of Tyreke but as far as talent goes, I think the Rockets should definitely take a chance on him.

Somewhere, J.R. Rider cries a little tear....

...I think you guys are inflating his value. He's got some scoring but at low efficiency, and probably thinks he's due for a big payday in 2013 based on his rookie promise which he has regressed from. There was no market for him this year...apparently, not sure if that will change.

That's what I wanted to do with this thread, get down to some real Clutchfans analysis.

Would the system the Rockets in place be effective on helping Evans develop?

We already know that McHale will sit a player if he see it as necessary. This works for Budinger REALLY well, and Budinger got PLENTY of playing time when he was a rookie, just not starters minutes until he earned them.

We have a culture of "no knuckleheads". Camby has been a GREAT influence, but he might be gone. Houston has mature vets, something that Sac doesn't have in abundance. We have a culture of high assists. Our FLASH comes from great defensive plays, not ISOs, but this is something Evans provides that we could appreciate in temperance.

IF it costs Lowry, then we can still sign Dragic (req'd):
    Dragic/Llull
Evans/Martin (Lee allowed to sign elsewhere)
    Parsons/Budinger/Morris
    Scola/Motiejunas/Patterson
    Camby/Dalembert

Then real question becomes what we do with Martin? Do we make him 6th man candidate until we have a suitor at the trade deadline next season?

AND FINALLY the "Black" factor. Our team is getting entirely TOO WHITE! and Evans is a dark brother. :p I wonder if that is the answer to why Houston never gets fouls called!

He's got the talent, but maybe not the bball IQ, to be a 1B player. The Francis comparisons are dead on. He can be fun to watch, but also incredibly frustrating. Stay away unless all other options for upgrading the roster have been exhausted.

Francis was a much more complete player, warts & all.

He just needs a good coach that will help him become a better player without the need to have the ball 36 minutes a game. So we just need to find that good coach haah!

How ironic would it be that the Rockets got Martin so Sacramento could give the team over to Tyreke Evans and then the Rockets move Martin to make room for Tyreke.

Still I doubt Tyreke is really on the block. Im sure he is at the right price, but there isn't much the Rockets could give that would make sense to Sacramento.
