Walton is on the air to entertain ! It's all about entertainment...He talks like an ordinary fan would, he was not hired to do boring analysis of NBA games, there are plenty of others to do that...

I used to not like Walton, but his over-exagerated style has caught on with the audience and me as well. He brings entertainment value to the general audience. My favorite Waltonism from last night is now my sig below.

All you had to do was watch Walton do Clipper home games before they got legit ballplayers (I hesitate to say "before they got good") to know that he's kidding around.

The sheer number of times he calls things "the [blank] in Clipper history" make it clear he's being sarcastic.

Bill Walton is hilarious. It's Snapper Jones that annoys me. :)

Here's somethin funny he said last night:"Don't you think this headband stuff has gone a little too far if Brad Miller is wearing one?"

"1.8 seconds is an eternity..." -- Bill Walton, NBA finals game #1

    Anybody remember this one?

Listening to Walton commentate the SMSV game and then the game last night was just plain nauseating.

If he rode James and Yao's jock any harder, they'd be Siamese triplets.

I wouldn't be surprised if much of the rest of the country was sick of Yao and Bill after last night's gushing.

I actually went to Pacer's forum last night. They did hate the guy. -)
They are also ref-haters (bashing on Yao gets too much respect for a Rookie), but guess NBA can't fine them not even 50 cents. :)
Bill Walton is too much. But I guess everything needs a comic strips. I can stand him a bit more than Dick V on ESPN.

Bill Walton knows how to spot talent. It's obvious he is extreme sometimes but give Walton credit for knowing that Yao Ming was going to be a force in the NBA while others said Ming was going to be a bust.

Walton deserves to boost and brag about his ability to prognosticate the future. Maybe that is what he was doing last night. Walton was forshadowing things to come for Yao Ming.

Personally, I was impresssed with Mings play.

Take it easy, man. It's just for fun. Sports is for fun, not to hate. I can feel your hatred towards Yao and Bill.

Release it! Enjoy the game when you see some good plays and hear some entertaining comments. Don't give yourself such a hard time when everybody is enjoying their time.

Take care. If you need to see a good doctor, Rox fans here can help you.

I like the part "he has a chance to change the basketball" a lot. Nobody else except Bill dares to say this in public. And he is definitely right on this.

Yao is unique. He is no Shaq. He makes NBA so much fun to watch.

Having said that, Yao has the chance to change the basketball.

While I can see him annoying Indiana fans to the extreme, Walton is often being sarcastic and I think even parodies himself. The comment about Cato's pass was classic. The Moochie comment was good, too.

One I haven't seen posted yet was something like this: Cato tries to receive a pass from the top of the key while under the basket. He let's it go through his hands. (Groan) Walton says, "Nice hands! Where do you want it next time?" Maybe if he knew how hurtful that was to those of us who have seen that play time and time again.... Actually, that just goes with the territory with Cato and I thought he played a really good game.

Here is another quote from the Big Red Head...

"Talor just came back from a serious year long injury. He ballooned to 380lbs, that's just inexcusable!"

It took me a while to detect his sarcastic tone and get his whole schtick -- but once I did I realized just how funny, smart, and entertaining the dude really is.

The reason he gets so excited over Yao is because we've never had a guy like this before. ever. He loves the game more than you. If you can't get excited over a the first 7'5 man with footwork, passing skills, learning ability, and every ****in thing else then you shouldn't be watching the nba.

I like Bill and Calvin a lot (I think they work well together), but I watched the national broadcast instead just to hear Walton. Walton is colorful and funny, and I needed to hear what sounded almost like homerism from a national source. The Rockets haven't had much pub since the Barkley Pippen Dream year, and its kind of nice for a change.

Bill Walton sometimes annoys me and sometimes makes me ROFL.

One example of the latter (paraphrased) occured after a sweet play by Ming. The camera immediately focused on the Rockets' bench and they were just all sitting there quietly. Bill says something sarcastic like:

"And the Rockets bench leaps to their feet with excitement! Seriously . . . somebody get them some coffee over there." :p

Anyone who thinks that Walton is serious should direct their attention to Bill comparing Yao to Fischer and Kasparov, the two greatest chess players ever, in his ability to see things develop. I think Walton is as intelligent as Dennis Miller with NONE of the irritating pretense. Walton knows his job isnt serious or difficult and I think he has as much fun as anyone in the arena.

    Just curious...

...but did the people on the Pacers board think that Jermaine O'Neal deserved more praise than Yao?

While I think Yao is already better than O'Neal... O'Neal barely existed as far as Walton was concerned.

Bill Walton is biggest Yao-only fans so far according to yesterday he talked about on ESPN.
