If both pick split, they split the money. If both pick steal, they each get nothing. If one picks steal and the other picks split, the stealer gets all the money. Steal If you pick Steal , you either get $100K or nothing. If you pick Split, you either get $50K or nothing. Statistically you should pick Steal. Psychologically, you want to observe your opponent and see if he/ she is the type who wants to Steal or Split. If your opponent picks Steal, and if you pick Split, you get nothing, you might as well pick Steal. If your opponent picks Split, why not pick Steal and get all for yourself. Either way, you want to pick Steal.
I don't know. On one hand, I don't want to be taken advantage of, but on the other hand I don't want to take advantage of anyone. Tough call.
eh, $100k isn't that much money. Definitely not worth my reputation. You have to go back to work and have everyone think of you as a sleaze ball.
If one action on a gameshow makes everyone think you're a sleezeball, you didn't have much of a rep to begin with. That's a game and you should play it to win, steal every time.
Why is that all 4 men split, and both women chose steal? Just goes to show you have evil women are compared to men.
Not really, I watched this show before (but I only just saw the 2nd vid) and I concluded that I would do exactly what the guy in the 2nd video did. Spoiler Tell the person 'I'm going to steal' and if you can absolutely convince him of that, then the guy has 2 options. He has a 100% chance of $0, or a X% of half the money. Either way, it will be in his best interest to Split, unless his satisfaction from screwing both of us over is greater than whatever the money is. The key difference between this and Prisoner's dilemma is negotiation and trust.
You're probably right, and after thinking about it further, if in the moment, i'd probably do what the guy in the 2nd video did. Although, It's highly unlikely that I'd be on any game show like this. Does the money ever go up to at least a million?
I wonder, what if it gets to the point that everybody says they steal? I.E they watch the 2nd video, and then everybody's learnt to say 'I'll steal'. I guess then it becomes a race, the first person to say 'I'll steal' manages to get upper hand.
ALWAYS pick steal! Opponent picks SPLIT: If you pick split, you get $50K. If you pick steal, you get $100K. Opponent picks STEAL: If you pick split, you get nothing. If you pick steal, you still get nothing but you opponent gets nothing too. There's no scenario where splitting is better than stealing.
