Can the Rockets get pick #13 or better instead of good ol' #14 by ending 10th in the standings ?. Next year's draft is deep and maybe at lucky #13 the GM can work some genius wizard magic and get that superstar. It wouldn't be looked as tanking in my opinion; just a little change in the order of things. Oh, and can Steve Francis go to lottery day to represent us? ;) So let the Jazz of Suns take 9th this year rox, it's ok it's not tanking.

They can pick number 1, if they get insanely lucky in the lottery.

    Actually 1 to 3 iirc.

Right, anything 13 or lower but My God not more #14 ; Morey has shown us #14 does not compute very well on his calculator.

30 and up compute pretty well. His 2nd rd picks are contributing more than any of his previous 1st rounders.

I think OKC had two picks and were able to move up to #10 one year IIRC.

then should he trade his first round picks for several 2nd rounders and build the same 9th place team ? ok.

Maybe Stern promised Morey a top 3 pick as a make up for the Gasol fiasco. Which would explain the tanking. ;)

I wouldn't describe this as tanking, but rather choking.

Of course it's a choke job. Im just saying if stern were to actually make that promise we could pretty much agree it was a tank job in order to get in the lottery.

Since somehow you read that suggestion in my post and decided to be condescending in your post, I'll jar back. You made a quip about the 14th not computing. I made one back on the fact that his 1st round picks have contributed little compared to his 2nd round picks. Patrick Patterson has declined and Marcus Morris has seen little to no time. Albiet Patterson had surgery and has obviously lost confidence in his game whether its from his usage by McHale or a personal thing. Bud is scoring off the bench and Parsons has been a developing all season.

Obviously, Morey could do better with a higher pick but its still a fact that the prospects he's chosen in the 1st round have not shown as much promise as his 2nd. ok.

I'm excited to see how Gasol and Nene match up in the playoffs. Our bigs should really do well in the slower pace of the playoffs.

I am not a fan of tanking. but you got a point. 1 pick ahead the jazz is an excellent idea. This might be the only one good thing Rocket can do now.

I bet you if Morey had 5 second round picks in this 2012 draft, he would work unbelievable magic.

Are the Rockets currently the 13th pick? They have the same record as Phoenix, but I believe Phoenix holds the tie-breaker? Or are draft slots for teams with tied records done by coin flip? I'm pretty sure that with regards to number of balls to get a top 3 pick when you have the same record the give both of those teams the same number of combinations, but not sure how it works outside of the top 3?

The Bucks finish the season with Indiana, NJ, Toronto, Philadelphia and Boston. Unfortunately Indiana and Boston are probably loses. If they go 2-3 they finish at 32-35.

That's our only chance right now to finish at the #12 spot.

Knowing the Rockets, though, they will finish the season on a 4 game win streak, and with the same record as the Jazz, but lose out because of the tie-breaker.

They are most likely to finish 14th. They have a relatively easy final 4 games. Phoenix has a harder schedule.

I won't put all the eggs in the top pick basket. Pick 2 or 3 would be fine, too. Looks like the Knick's pick would be around 17. Worst case scenario of #14 and #17. Could you package those 2 and move up to #10? Possibly. But no guarantee.

Unless one of those hypothetical 2nd rounders turns out to be a Gilbert Arenas-like star, what's the point? A team full of Parsons and Landrys isn't getting us to the Western Conference semifinals.

We are currently sitting at #13 right now.

The less than 1% chance of jumping into the top 3 is so exciting!

This draft will be one of the deepest in history because of the lockout. Many players returned to school last season, so it will be deeper than usual. There are 2nd rounders that were lottery picks a couple of seasons ago. There are a couple of undrafted prospects that were considered lottery picks a couple of seasons ago, but because of injuries they fell out of contention( Elias Harris, Adonis Thomas).
