Help! For example, when I put in my Madden 2003 disc in the PS2 system, it can't read the disc. I always get the "disc read error" If the game ever gets past that point, everything is good to go. As a result I can't play my damn game. Anybody ever had to deal with this problem? what did you do? any tips? Same thing happens for my NBA LIVE 2003 disc, but the PS2 actually reads that disk sometimes. Is a PS2 supposed to give out after just a year and a half of owning it? I sure as hell hope not. Thanks for your time.
put the game in the disc try, now take a blank or useless CD you have, and place it upside down on top of the game. crude, but it works.
I was having some problems like this...some of my discs couldn't get "traction" and spin properly. Solution: Put a couple of pieces of masking tape on the top of the disc. Not too much. This helped mine run smooth.
P.S. Sometimes there's something actually wrong with the disc and you might need to just take it back and get a good one. Wal-Mart will usually exchange a game for the same exact one even without a receipt.
Well, it's like when I put the disc in, the PS2 makes some semi-loud noises that I do not remember the PS2 making when I first got the system. Could be the traction you speak of SuperMac34? when I get the "disc read error", does that mean the disc is not spinning?
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=disc The 'disc' spelling isn't really wrong. Here's an interesting note about the history of the different spellings: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=compact disk
try here: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/ps2_disc_read_error_a.txt if you can't get any of that to work ... you're screwed. You can call up Sony and ask about sending in your machine, but I believe it's pretty damn expensive and may just be easier to buy a whole new console(used to be 190 for them to fix it, I'm sure it's gone down in price by now though).
Exactly...that's what was wrong with mine. It only does it on a couple of games, right? It did it on Madden 2002 and Virtua Fighter 4. For some reason the disk would not spin and make strange noises. Put some tape, even scotch tape on the top...NOT sticky side up...I had a buddy do this when I gave him this advice and it was a mess...just stick a couple small strips of tape around the center of the disk and see if it works.
Jeez, I hope this doesn't happen to PS2...especially since Christmas in my home partly consists of Clone Wars, Clancy's Ghost Recon, Mortal Kombat, X-Men Next Dimension, and possibly Madden or Gameday 2003...
