The Unknown Player in the 90s... who was he? Back in the early 1990's, our ROCKETS were depleted in players, and I remember that we had almost half the team out with injuries. We had a player signed for a few days, and he had no name on the back of his jersey. I think this was the blue/striped pajamas days... or early in the Championship years. He had no name on the back of his jersey, and had black hair. He only passed it around, never took a shot, although I might be wrong. I am trying to think of the guy's name... but don't remember. I need help identifying this name... it escapes me.
Darn it, DaDarkOne... why are you always playing around, man? You never take ANYTHING seriously. The answer to that is: Yo momma.
you've given 3 different time periods... early 90's championship years (mid 90's) post championship years wearing blue pj's (late 90's) so essentially it was someone who played a few games with no name on the back of his jersey from a decade. that narrows it down to absolutely no one i can think of.
Sedale Threatt I remember. I think the guy I'm referring is a shooting or point guard. Short dude, wavy/short dark hair? Before Brycedrew or Maloney. I think more of the Mark Price's brother build. Mad Max How dare you, sir, make SENSE of my post?!?!? Yeah, I saw that. Let me think... it may have been the Pajama years, because I remember almost clearly that it was PRE-Matt Maloney and I 'memmer seeing the blue jersey. I'll do more research.
The PJ-uniform started in the 95-96 season and Maloney in 96-97, so it would have to be the 95-96 season that you're thinking of.
'95-'96 was a year that we picked up tons of CBA players due to injuries IIRC. basketball-reference.com lists Melvin Booker on the roster as a 6-1 guard (who I have no recollection of). We also had forwards Henry James and Alvin Heggs who I do not remember.
Mike James wore no name, but this year, and with the Bulls. Anyone recall when Jordan's jerseys were stolen on the road in the early '90s and he had to wear #12 with no name. I bet you that jersey is worth more today than the ones that were stolen. I do vaguely remember someone on the Rockets who had to wear an emergency uniform, too, in the early '90s. Someone here will remember. I recall as Game Notes comment about in the Post or Chronicle. We'll have to get tinman to search the archives for the 1st game of everyone temporary player we used.
My first thought was Emmanuel Davis as someone already mentioned. Worrell called him E-Mail. Kind of a play on words on the mailman i guess.
I remember he was WHITE (I said Brent Price-like and Bryce Drew-like). I know Tito Maddox (looks like a curly-haired Cuba Gooding Jr.) and e-Mail Davis... I know e-Mail black, main. He did not have a name on his jersey. It wasn't during the CBA thing because the players had names. I know it was during the time Olajuwon was still here. Still searching. I might be mistaken that it was during the Pajama years, though. One of the things I do remember, however, is he may have been under the Rudy T. era., way PAST after Don Chaney got fired for losing to the lowly T-Wolves after getting Coach of The Year. I've been watching the Rockets since I was in Mexico, and I remember that during the time to which I'm making reference, so it was after '87 but before the Barkley years. If I could just see some video... he had NO NAME on his jersey and was signed for a few days only.
