If so I would love for the Astros to try to make a deal for him. Maybe one of our young pichers(Redding), and some prospects, and Ward for him? I mean they where going to trade him for Phil Nevin. He has a huge contract, but I think the Astros should go all out and win the World Series. Biggio, Bagwell, and now Kent are not getting any younger. Lets do this Stros, and win the World Series! If not what about Cliff Floyd? Is he still out there? Anyway I am excited about getting Kent! BUt why stop with just Kent? Lets go all out.
He's injury-prone & owed a ton of $$$. I think the Stros should pass on that one. Any additional moves by the 'Stros should revolve around pitching.
I don't know...if the Stros could manage to bring Carlos Beltran over then I would prefer that over any pitching moves.
Well we got one Giant so far so why don't we sign Kenny Lofton? He played great in the playoffs and would be a nice pick up for us. I would like to have Lofton more than Payton, although Lofton is getting old, but so in anyone else on the Astros.
I'd gamble on Griffey. Potentially a huge payoff if he can play, which in most cases, has been proven to be true. Alou certainly didn't help that cause tho'. Nor does his contract.
Here is what one of the Bay area sportswriters has to say about Lofton: "Even as good as Lofton was offensively after Sept. 1, he was frightening defensively. "
I totally agree - 'Los Beltran will be a great addition to this team. I believe is Hunsicker - I am sure he will do his best to upgrade our team a notch or two upwards. We also need a solid middle relief to compliment Ricky Stone and Brendan Puffer.
Griffey Jr was easily my favorite non-astro growing up. I am rooting for him to get back on track and it would be even more special if he was able to do it as an Astro however I just don't think there is room in Htown for another highprofile, highpriced star now that Kent is on board. PS I think the Jeff Kent signing is huge for the Stros and despite the many problems I see with baseball I just may have to tune in for some games next year, something I did not do too frequently last season.
If Griffey is healthy he is a steal. If Griffey is not healthy he is a waste Chance of Griffey being healthy 50% I wopuld love to see Griffey get back in his groove, just don't know if it will happen again
Griffey makes way too much, especially now that the Astros have added Jeff Kent. But could you imagine a lineup with Berkman, Bagwell, Kent and Griffey? Too much to think about. Unless the Reds were going to take Hidalgo, and pay for some of Griffey's remaining salary that deal doesn't happen. Griffey probably won't be moved this offseason.
I know he's had some injury problems the last few years, but we're talking about Ken Frickin' Griffey!! I mean, its not like the guy has blown out both knees or keeps breaking a foot, I think most of his injuries have been muscle-related. I'd consider anyone short of Roy, WaMi, Kent, & the 3 B's for him, which is moot because it would probably take one of them to get him here anyway.
What makes you think the Reds would be willing to trade their best player to a division rival? Would you trade Bagwell to the Cubs? How about Biggio to the Cardinals? I know it doesn't seem like it, but the Reds are trying to win, too (and lest we forget, Griffey is a huge attendance draw). Ward and scrub-to-be-named later will not get it done. Now, if you dangle Carlos Hernandez and Jason Lane, they might at least talk to us.
Would the Reds take Wagner, Hidalgo and a young pitcher like Carlos Hernandez? The salaries would be fairly comparable. It is a bit too much to expect that we would get Ken Griffey, but if we're going to Dreamcast, why not aim high? Griffey would be such a defensive improvement that his offense would be something of a bonus...a 40hr, 120rbi kind of bonus. I don't see this one happening though...nice thought.
