I think we could get Stoudemire for expirings if we wanted. We do have Dalembert's nonguaranteed contract to use.
It would be Phoenix Amare IMO, he was the focus of that offense just like he would be here in Houston. Also he wouldn't have the circus that is the New York media. I'm not sure why you guys are so against Amare. What if we stole Phoenix's training staff by throwing them gobs of money, then what? They've sustained life for Carter, Nash, Hill, and Shaq.
Several things are clear with Stoudemire. 1) His contract is huge, and uninsured. Given his injury history, this is a big financial burden for ownership. At least Yao and McGrady were insured, so even though we took the cap hit, the salary was not fully paid by ownership. 2) Stoudemire's only strength is his ability to run the pick and roll. He was fine before Anthony because he was able to run the PNR with Felton, and had complimentary shooters to space the floor. Also, as the primary big man, he didn't have the paint clogged like he does now with Chandler. Anthony's taking his ball movement. Chandler is killing his spacing. Without the PNR, Stoudemire has no other elite talents. He's awful on defense, and doesn't do much else. 3) Stoudemire would be an okay fit, honestly, if we're willing to run PNR with him all day, but that's not a championship team. It's a playoff team, but not a contender. His salary is huge, and his only elite skill is to score in PNR. We would be porous on defense, especially when the second most stacked position in the league is PF. Not worth it. A B-list star on an A-list contract.
Amare isn't as bad as some on her scream. But you have to ask yourself is that how you want to spend your max dollars. Amare has been injury prone. Nothing you say changes that. Amare has never been much of a two-way player. Amare is having his worst offensive scoring and rebounding season in 5 years. He is declining and is owed 65 million dollars over the next 3 years. You could argue that Gasol has the same kind of deal but Gasol plays defense. The other point is why would they want Lowry when they have Davis and Lin. New York has never been a team worried about spending money. If Amare still can contribute as you suggest why would they trade him for a player they do not need. In the end you just have to ask yourself is Amare the best we can get back for Lowry. We need a low post scorer and a go to guy. Amare would fill both of those needs if he could stay healthy but there's no way to know that. And in fact he has been injury pron and has a bad back which could be the decline of a once good player. You would bet on him returning to top form. But the only reason NY would trade him is because they believe he won't and they want to get the something out of him before he collapses completely.
I would have grabbed him earlier this season, but Amare's sh-tty play and physical troubles since make it look like he might finally be done.
I wouldn't do Lowry by himself for Amare. Heck, I wouldn't do Dragic for Amare at this point. I'm not getting stuck with that contract.
Amare is living out a 100 million dollar contract. He just had surgery. Before that, he had microfracture surgery. This year was a terrible year for him in terms of production. He was overrated to begin with. He doesn't rebound well and is one of the worst defensive 4's in the league. What on earth are you thinking??? Pau Gasol is one of the best passing big men in the league. He is one of the best rebounders in the league. He can be just as lethal as a healthy Amare when given touches. He is actually a plus defender. Oh, and he also makes significantly less on his remaining contract. I can't believe you are serious about this. I wouldn't trade expirings for Amare, and you want to give Lowry + for him? The Knicks are screwed now. Why would you help them like that? Just terrible.
I'm a rookie, but I'd say f*** this idea, Stoudemire body is like built from glass. As a starter, they need to throw in a top 5 lottery pick to just get rid of that contract, which apparently they don't have.
No. things have changed. Including Amare. I would have been wrong to want Amare Stoudemire here like I did. Morey made his best non move there. Although it might have lured Carmelo here like Morey wanted.
Him being injured isn't the most concerning factor I think, its more of his lack of post up play. I think JVG was commenting on Amare's game now and how he tends to settle for jumpers (although he makes a decent amount of them). Amare's game was near franchise player-awesome when he dunked nearly everything and his knees weren't so bad but now add his back into the mix, looks like all that dunking's taking it's toll on his body. I guess it depends on what we have to give up but if we had to give up Lowry for him I'd pass, I'd honestly rather have Pau Gasol and that's saying alot. At least with Pau, you know you're getting a 7 ft PF who shoots a pretty good FT%, has a good jumper and can actually play center on occasion (taller but not as offensively adept Scola). I'm only assuming we're going to try to shake things up again this post season just like we do every post season, who knows how we'll fare in the play offs if we do make it that far. What 4 games does to change our fates huh?
