After seeing him almost bashful when applauded by his teammates last night, I wonder if Eddie has the right attitude to make it in the NBA. I would love to see him with a little swagger. At this level I think it's more about heart and attitude than talent. When's the last time he took it hard to the rack. It's not like he doesn't have the talent, I think it's a confidence thing. If that changes with time he will be the missing piece to our team.
i don't think it's EG's confidence.....he's just soft spoken. Another soft spoken and quiet player is Tim duncan and no one will say he doesn't have desire or heart.
Well said. I for one can do without the Patrick Ewing-style posturing and animalistic howls after each basket.
Eddie is layed back, so what is the big deal? It is not that he does not have an attitude, just ask the teamates he got in fights with. One in High School and the other in College. Eddie has a real calm court demenor, but that does not mean that he does not have the desire. Eddie reminds me of me, calm and laid back, and doesn't get rattled easly. Which means he has the potential to be a very good clutch player. The Tim Duncan thing is a good point, they have similar attitudes, but not similar playing styles.
I agree Panda, one day Eddie is going to go off. Score like 25 points, 10 broads, 10 blocks for a tripple double. Eddie gets bashed alot on these broads and even I get mad at him some times, but I think he is something special waiting to happen. Francis, Yao, and Griffin are going to lead us to the promise land.
After getting all the love from Francis, Cat, Yao, and Rice, EG did look a little bashful but I like that about him. He's the silent assassin. He's not one to beat on his chest after a basket or go look at me I scored. He just wants to improve and to help the team win and you gotta love that about a 20yr. old who has been the man everywhere he's played since he was 10. Watching him after the game and listening to him talk during interviews, its really hard to imagine him punching another one of his teamates but it does show that he has some fire.
Yeah, one of these days, Eddie is gonna be so good, somebody might even offer us the #13, #18, and #23 draft picks for him.
Would we trade Eddie Griffin for a high draft pick next year? Let me rephrase. A team is offering a pick next year for Griffin. How high a pick would it take for you to say yes? Nothing unrealistic like saying no to the #1 pick. Lots of people think STEVE isn't worth next year's #1 pick. #2 is Darko Milicic so let's remove that too. Let's start at #3, where surprises show up and players are interchangeable. From #3, what's your limit for trading EG? (considering he continues to play as he is, flashes, no consistency) No, I don't want to trade him. I'm just trying to see his value to the fans.
I LOVE Eddie. For a 20 1/2 year old, he's shows more poise and IQ than 8 other players on the team. He does jack up more shots than he should, but at least they are open shots and he will learn better shot selection with experience. And while he may not be strong enough to post up down low on a consistent basis, there ARE certain teams and matchups that we should post him up against. He has solid post up moves - it's just a matter of strength and conditioning at this point. I can't end this post without mentioning his special ability on the second jump. This guy has the quickest second hop I've seen, which leads to all those unexpected swats and timely tips. I don't think Eddie will ever be a franchise player simply because he doesn't have the quickness to create his own shot on the perimeter. But he will be an all-star caliber player.
Have yall ever noticed that Eddie doesn't really jump that high. I think he has excellent fundamentals especially for a 20 year old, but I think his athleticism is overrated. His blocks are always close up. He never gets those highlight, out of nowhere, didn't even see him coming blocks that Hakeem used to get. All that being said, he is our best option at power forward. Once he develops a consistent inside shot, we will have one of the best if not the best frontline in the league. Has anyone seen Mo Taylor. I think he just dribbled off his knee again.
Maybe Eddie Griffin lacks something but I am very sure it is not confidence. Yao is also bashfull when complimented by teamates, coaches and press men/women; does that make lesser than what he is or what he is about to become? When Eddie Punched Ty Shine in college he was dubbed a disturbed and aggressive person. That punch meant that he was taken 7th instead of top 3 according to the 'scouts' (good for us afterall. Now he is now older,more mature and reserved now that has been translated as lack of confidence. Trust me Eddie can give you cold or hot; don't make him mad - ask Ty. I like Eddie attitude - at least he does not ask like a premadonna(sp) or punk.
I noticed that too in fact i've mention it in several posts reguarding eddie, he doesn't appear to have that freakish athleticism. I still want to see him thrown down a nasty dunk or at least take it to the rim hard.
I like E.G., he appears to be a good kid with a ton of talent, but let's be honest sooner or later he has to start producing on a regular basis. If E.G. can't get it together our dreams of a championship seasons are going to be put on the back burner. I would hate to loose him because of a trade or worse yet to the bench.
