Because he isn't.....actually McHale is the worst coach the Rockets have had since probably Don Chaney. DD
It's not about better because Rick has been coaching for decades. McHale has only been coaching for a few years. I do think McHale could be a diamond coach in the rough just waiting to be polished. Doc Rivers was seen as a garbage coach for years before the big 3 and now he's considered one of the best coaches in the NBA. We've seen Adelman's ceiling but McHale's history is still being written and the future is bright. I do think McHale's X factor is his charisma. He could be the difference when it comes to recruiting star players. Adelman couldn't care less about off the court affairs and that I think is why he isn't here.
This three game losing streak at this inopportune time feels really, really bad, but all is not lost yet. It took me a while to warm up to McHale, longer than three games for sure, so I'll probably wait at least until the season is over before it's time to call for a beheading.
We've won 32 games with McHale this year. How many would we have won with Adelman? Probably about the same number. The difference between these two coaches is not that great, at least not with our currently constructed team. We've won some games with McHale this year that we would not have won with Adelman. We've lost some games with McHale this year that we would have won with Adelman. It's pretty even. I do appreciate bringing this up right after our 3 game losing streak and not our 4 game winning streak.
My big beef with McHale -- the guy can be slow as MO-LASS-ES to make in game adjustments. This has been most evident in the past three games when our opponents have gone on big 3rd quarter surges and McHale keeps the same line-up out there for an interminable amount of time as things get worse and worse. Also, during these games, his reluctance to play either Camby or Dalembert late game minutes has been rather detrimental as well.
The only problem i have is theres no consisteny in the lineup. how can players develop chemistry if they are playing with diff ppl every game.
Its this BBS fault! We have reactions just becasue we do. The team is what it is. RA was good but he was let go. McHale is here and until he is let go we root for him to do well and the team to win. At least that's what most fans would want, right? But here, there is always someone to point out something, go or bad and want to make their point. Oh wait, that's what all the people here wants to do... Nevermind.
I love Adelman, but let's not pretend that he did anything differently. He didn't and wasn't going to tank. He wasn't going to develop any of our projects like TWill, Thabeet, Hill, or likely Morris (why would he?). And he didn't get us to the playoffs. If McHale were truly horrible and we had 10 wins instead of 30+, I think a large portion of us would be happier. We'd at least have a shot at a franchise player like Anthony Davis in the draft. Instead, everyone's upset because a four game road win streak blew up everyone's expectations. We're a bubble playoff team and everyone's forgotten that.
Adelman's record this year without Rubio has been 4-16. Or 0.200. The difference is they have added Barea, the second overall pick Derrick Williams, and Pekovic has developed into a legit center. Yet, with all that, you take away Rubio, and they are still 0.200. The past 2 years, under Kurt Rambis, widely regarded as one of the worst coaches in the league, the Timberwolves without Rubio were 0.200.
This post is spot on, imo. Anyone who thinks this team would be more than 2 or 3 games better or worse, if that, in either direction with Adelman as coach didn't watch Adelman as coach. You can throw any number of things out there for any coach - had injuries, had players step up, had yada yada yada. While it's fair to judge McHale based on what we know now, I would point out at the begginning of the season many posters were not expecting much of McHale or the team. Despite the rotation change, Scola relative suckiness, and the losses of Lowry and Martin, the team has overperformed, imo, and McHale's way overperformed.
