It is a rant that is largely based on using racism to explain some perceived unprecedented atrocity. It was obviously heartfelt, like most rants, but brilliant it was not.

I am not using this to judge him. Many people are extremely defensive about that for some reason. I just feel this way because it kinda explains some of the incongruities.

I wrote that before I read his last post and someone else bringing up Lincoln. I apologize to Batman, over reacted to the martyrdom that I hear from both sides of the aisle.

On a side note if Obama or any other politician joined a church because it could help people, I would applaud them.. Far more concerned with the character and integrity of a man, not his religion...

I find it far more offensive that the inference is that Democrats are not Christian or would not support a candidate because they are Christian.

I was not accusing you of judging him. I only meant to clarify my feelings on the subject.

And I tend to disagree. I think if he was more vocal about religion, and there was no Muslim conspiracy theories, it would be a bigger deal among the democrats.

Jimmy Carter was very openly Christian while in office, and after leaving office. I haven't seen much backlash from liberals or Democrats against Carter.

So, in your mind I'm agreeing with you that Obama isn't a "real christian?"

I'm not agreeing with you. I just don't care one way or the other. It's like if you said "Do you think the curling team from Dublin is the real deal, or are they just benefiting from a good schedule?" and then I answered, "I think they're a curling team."

    And I'm not pro-Obama. I'm anti-idiot. There's a difference, a big difference.

I still can't understand why Americans are so hung up with another person's religious. What is this the middle ages.

No, but many people in this country would like return to the middle ages if possible.

That is what I am wondering also.

My opinion is if Obama says he is a Christian then that is good enough for me to consider him a Christian. I am not a Christian so it would be highly presumptuous of me of to decide who is one and who isn't.

I'm not asking you to decide, just your ideas on the OP.

Incongruities like why would he choose Jeremiah Wright's church. My explanation is the content was less important that the community outreach. And I guess one that is pretty controversial in here is liberals attacking Bush's "talked to God" but having no problem with Obama. Although like I said that might also be a side effect of the Muslim conspiracy.

That is r****ded. I have said more times than I can count that true Christians, ones that give a **** about um Christ, should be more at home with liberal ideology than conservative.

If you are a Christian that goes to church to find out who to hate, you are naturally aligned with the Republican party and vote accordingly.

If you are a Christian that goes to church to think about how to love, you're far more likely to be a Democrat.

Abortion is the only reasonable point of contention between liberals and Christians. In every other way, the Democratic platform is a like a mimeograph of Christ's teachings. And even when it comes to what to actually do about and/or with abortion law, I don't even think that issue is a clear gimme. Jesus wouldn't be down with locking those women up.

Do a search on my name and Christ on this board. Or my name and Christian. And tell me again how I'm not down with them or that liberals aren't.

Or ask MadMax (an increasingly liberal Christian I believe) what he thinks of my attitude to religion, Christ or Christianity. He knows me on the board and in real life. I think he'd vouch that I am an enemy of none of those things and find more common ground with them than not, though I am a Jewish atheist that wishes he were a Buddhist.

I think Jesus Christ was one of the most important, beautiful, inspirational people ever to live and I thank goodness for his immeasurable contributions to things that are right with this world. It is a shame so many crimes are committed in his name, both by ones that call themselves followers and by some churches themselves.

But this progressives don't gel with Christians thing? That is nonsense.

I am not really sure of that politically. Certainly churches do a ton of charity work but I don't think higher taxes and entitlements are christian values.

You also have gay rights, contraception, prayer in school, in addition to abortion.

To be honest I didn't think I was really making a huge statement about Christians and progressives not being political friends.

    Accepted? I guess.

If you're calling me a martyr, I guess not.

I do agree with your last two paragraphs. Obviously.

No, not calling you a martyr, you just tend to see things in more absolutes than I do...
