is having the foil installed totally worth it? or, is it better to go with the less effective and less expensive install with the paint? my house gets hotter than hell at nights with the radiant heat coming down during the hottest parts of the summer. it's not as bad during the day but at night it all seems to seep down through the ceiling. i bought solar screens and those did help but only a little.

for those that have, are you now thinking how did you ever go without it?

i just want to be comfortable without having to run the a/c with it kicking on every two minutes.

Foil...if you want to do it for cheap, go to home depot and buy the foil, a staple gun, and some staples and do it yourself....

foil will be hard to do and it has already warmed up to the point you will be sweating ur ace off. I also don't see how you are gonna get total coverage. I would do the paint, they are much better now than a few years ago.

I had foil put in. It really seemed to help with my attic not feeling as hot. My bills have gone down every year but I also had some light tint put on my windows and added honey comb shades for window coverings.

The paint barrier does not seem to be as effective.

I would recommend going with the foil barrier. It is more effective than the paint and the difference in cost will be made up in improved energy savings and comfort.

yea...i guess reducing attic heat is the key for reducing radiant heat dropping down through the ceiling into the rooms at night and for reducing how often/long the a/c runs. that is when it is the worst in my house and the a/c runs constantly...is when the sun goes down and the few hours thereafter. it's not that bad during the day when the sun is up.

if it doesn't noticably improve the comfort inside the home, then it won't be worth it for me. the electric bill should be reduced also obviously if it is working.
