with a veteran back-up who wouldn't mind playing just 7-10 minutes a game ? I like Moochie, and I think he brings alot to the table, but how content is he to be a back-up ?
Anybody think Moochie could be the 3rd guard for another team ? If Walt starts the way he finished last year, he will need more minutes. Langhi will get time at the 3 (maybe shandon's minutes) leaving Shandon and Mobes to split time at the 2. Also can't forget Drew and Bullard.
So, that is a potential of 9 players (I know, not all will be in rotation), fighting for 144 minutes a game. Someone will be unhappy, and I hope it is not Shandon or Cat.

He should be very content....considering he has popped in and out of the league throughout his career, but has spent most of it in the CBA. I think he is happy to have a home in the league now with a good, young team.

    Of course he could!

He reminds me of Howard Eisley in alot of ways. I'm sure if the Rockets had to let him go that a team like the Laker's would snatch him up.

    God forbid!!!

Thanks Rocket Pimp [IMG] . I agree with you guys, but my main priorities are : a. the team wins, b. the team is happy, c. Shandon and Cat get their minutes. Both of them took less money to stay in Houston and should be rewarded.

i think we could do it like the Kings last year. Basically have a first string(Hakeem,Taylor,Walt,Anderson,Francis) then sub ALL of them out and have (Cato,KT, Langhi,Mobes, Moochie) If we could get are second stringers together and create some chemistry we will be just fine.

For Shandon and Cat to get their minutes, either Moochie or Langhi will have to be a bench warmer.

If what I hear about Langhi is true, then I would rather see Cat play some back up point guard to get his minutes expanded, and allow Shandon to stay at the two for more time.

I like to compare Moochie to Greg Anthony. A solid backup who comes in, plays hard in limited minutes.....PRODUCES.....and is happy in his role.

I have heard nothing that points to Moochie being unhappy in the slightest with his role on the team. I don't anticipate it happening either.

BBallPlayinblablah, what was the ratio of minutes in Sacramento for the 1st team vs 2nd team ? Like 70/30 ? Or was it closer to 50/50 ?

The main thing is to win games and if we do that everyone will be happy, everyone is happy when you are wining.I see no way Cat going back to point unless Steve is injured and lets not talk about that. This is how I see are rotation:

    H.Olajuwon
    M.Taylor
    W.Williams
    S.Anderson
    S.Francis

We start with the line up above with Cato coming in early for Dream and the Cat a little later for the Wizard moving Shandon to the 3 spot. The start of the 2nd quarter we come out with Langhi coming in for Shandon.A little later bringing in KT and Hakeem or perhaps Collier for Mo and Cato, and Anderson coming back in at some point for either Langhi or mobley. While Moochie giving Steve rest whenever needed. The 2nd half will be a little different starting out with the same line up but the substitutions will depend on how everyone is playing and finishing off the game with the players that are playing the best,as i will trust Rudy with that.

As a coach you have to go on how the game and your players are playing. If Cat is hot, you keep him out there until he gets cold. If SA is hot you do the same. There is no way that you can have a fixed substitution. On any given night you can have a player that is in the zone. You play him until he leaves the zone. As a coach you have to know your personnel, you cannot just say "At the 6 min mark you go in the game". You do your substitutions based on how the flow of the game is going...

I agree with you T-man as if someone is hot you keep them in the game and you also have to look at match ups but you also have to have some kind of rotation you stick to.Rudy did last season as he has since hes been here.It may take a few games but Rudy will look at all his combinations and create the best possible rotation.Depending who is playing the best at the time and the team we are playing he will make minor adjustments.

Oilpere: I don't think that Shandon will present much or a problem as far as substitutions go. He seems to be able to fit in with whatever is being done offensively. Yes, he dissappears occasionally, but I've still been struck by his ability to conform his game to the needs of the team at present... an invaluable ability, imo.

oh... and Republicans do suck [IMG]. Did anyone else hear that Nixon used to beat his wife?

I see it somewhat the same as you guys.

But bear in mind that RT thrives on matchups, and that will dictate the gametime moves. When he was asked last year about a particular substitution in a post-game interview, he stated that very philosophy emphatically. In part, he said: " ... why would I put Shandon back in when they had no answer for Cuttino ..... ".

This does not differ from what he has done throughout his career. This year he will be given an opportunity to readily platoon several players at almost all positions. More than anyother time in Rockets history,I think.

The real telltale of this season, in my opinion anyway, is what the reactions of the players will be, and to what extent they will pick-up or fall-off their playing goals.

Cato and Cuttino come to mind as players that thrive on coming off the bench. Moochie, Drew and Bullard also to a certain extent.

But how will the newly acquired Taylor do? Or Shandon, who prefers to get out there and give an overall game performance, sometimes foresaking offense inlieu of his defensive prowess. But he needs to be involved, even without ball handling, for him to be effective. Previously he has had the worst games of his career, both offensively and defensively, when he was "not in the game" figuratively or literally. How will this affect the team platoon concept?

Hakeem feels lost out there when he is not "in the flow" of the game. As a matter of fact, his biggest performance defecit (as it is with aging power players everywhere) is the lack of ability to create when legs don't have the same quickness and spark they did a couple of years before. What will he do if he is systematically platooned with Cato?

This will be a big year for the Rockets. It will be a championship drive, if everyone thinks team first and buys into the platoon concept.

    oeilpere,

Are you suggesting the team dress up in army fatigues and drive between LA and Miami to watch the championship?
