Stockton had 7 seasons with better numbers than Nash's 2 MVP years. It's Stockton and it's not even close.

stockton, not even close. Nash is an impressive PG, but the mvp vote is a joke. As good as he is, how does he have as much as Shaq and Kobe combined?! Its literally just a popular vote by the media.
you look at performance and John stockton was one of the best if not hte best pgs of all time, he did it on both ends of the court and just mastered the position. Nash is good, one of the best of the current group, but stockton is one of a kind. Hated him when he played, respect him now that he is gone and there won't be a pg who did it like him. If he was on the rockets i would love him. ultimate team player and character guy

If it was based on popularity Kobe would have more than 1.

I absolutely love to watch Steve Nash, and in my opinion he is the greatest shooter to ever play the game. There's a lot to be said for that.

But Stockton was just as good as Nash at running an offense, and he played defense on top of that. He is the NBA's all-time leader in steals (by a very large margin), for crying out loud.

Interesting note about Stockton...he never had a triple double in a regular season game. Just once, in a playoff game.

not by ESpn, majority of those guys can't stand the guy. All star is fan votes nad kobe will always be there even as he climbs over the hill
but the media and the mvp vote and majority of them have their favorite in lebron to hte point where they redefine it to his need.s I remmeber one year hollinger said because he was the best player on the best team, then next year when that was kobe, he said lebrons stats were just too good, just changed it around every year. Kobe had at least 2 MVP seasons, but the whole thing is subjective. The nba gives it to the media so they keep reporting and stay engaged=more nba exposure

The MVP generally goes to the best player on one of the best teams unless there are extenuating circumstances (i.e. Nash turning around a franchise and then doing it the following year without the 2nd best player on the team).

Out of curiosity, what years do you think Kobe deserved the MVP? If you're going to say 08-09, you should note that the Cavs had a better record than the Lakers, and Lebron had better individual stats than Kobe.

I am guessing you didn't watch the NBA during the mid-2000s.

Seriously, if you don't know the answer to that question, that is the only assumption I can make.

During the years in which Nash won his MVPs, Shaq was not as relevant and Kobe played on crap teams. Remember MVP does not mean "Best Player In The League," it means "Most VALUABLE Player." It is awarded to the player who is most valuable to his team.

Nash joined one of the worst teams in the league and single-handedly (YES, SINGLE HANDEDLY) turned them into a 60-win team..
That offseason, so many people (as well as media so-called experts) were calling Nash's MVP bs/ridiculous crediting the Suns' emergence to the improvement of Amare. That offseason, Amare went down for the entire season.
The team, with Boris Diaw starting at center won the division winning the division comfortably with 55 wins.

If you were to have watched those Phoenix Suns teams, you would see how valuable Nash was to his team. They ran a fast-paced run and gun style, a style of play which requires an highly intelligent PG who can make great decisions at a fast pace (nobody ran that system like Nash did). Furthermore, he was/is one of the best pure shooters in the game (one of the few players capable of taking and making a shot from anywhere in the court, an elite freethrow/3pt shooter).

Back to the topic, Stockton probably was a better player but I just can't vote for him. And despite how much better Stockton was defensively, I feel like Nash makes up for it with his shooting/scoring ability. Not saying he exceeds Stockton, just saying, it is closer than people think.

Nash, like some1 said, Stockton played dirty and got away with a lot on both sides of the court which discredits all his stats.

Nash is the single worst defensive player of the past decade. I hate stock more than any player in the history of the nba, but it's not even close

I HATE John Stockton and everything associated with the Utah Jazz, naturally.

With that said Stockton would rape Nash on D and he'd more than hold his own on the offensive end.

Pasty gangster was a little punk ass b****. But he could flat out ball.

I doubt Stockton could lead the Jazz to the WCF without Malone.

Do you doubt that he could have lead those Suns to the WCF without Amare?

    Stockton 51.5% career shooting percentage

    Nash 49.1% career shooting percentage

Stockton was just as good, if not better than Nash as a shooter. Again...It's not close at all.

FG% does not account three point shooting. If you look at eFG%, the numbers are in Nash's favor .557 to .546.

Look at that. I present a single stat, and magically, Nash is the better shooter.

But wait...TS% favors Stockton .608 to .605. Looks like Stockton is the better shooter after all.

Hopefully by now you realize how silly it is to present just one stat in order to prove your point in this argument.
