I actively watched 2 TV shows tonight that left me beyond horrified. Yes, I should have known better and turned off the TV, but these shows were akin to watching a train wreck and not being able to avert your eyes...

TV SHOW #1: Jen Loves Ben
Yep. They made an entire half-hour VH1 special devoted to Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's engagement. The show detailed their lives and love life. It was almost like the the PR guys for each star got together and made a 30 minute promotional video to air on TV. I felt like I had sent away for one of the those free Disneyworld videos and decided to watch it due to sheer boredom. Only this was Jen and Ben, so naturally, it was worse. But I guess it kind of makes sense, in a Hollywood way. Ben and Jen's engagement was manufactored for TV, so naturally, their special was, too.

TV SHOW #2: Anna Nicole Christmas Special
Most embarrassing 30 minutes of TV I've ever watched. Here's the simple premise: See Anna Nicole throw a party. See Anna Nicole invite freaky people to said party, including her "made-for-Cops" cousin, Shelly. See Anna Nicole and guests get completely smashed (in front of her son, too). Watch hijinks ensue! It was bad enough that we couldn't understand Anna Nicole at all when she slurred her speech. It was terrible when Howard (a.k.a The Voice of Reason) got liquored up as well and confronted Kathy Griffin. It was excruciating when Anna and Margaret Cho frenched each other for like 2 minutes. However, when the toothless cousin, Shelly, started flashing everyone and got into a smackdown with some other guests, the show officially crossed the line. There was NO point to this show, other than to watch fools make an ass out of themselves. Has E! really sunk into "Fox Reality Series" low? This show made The Osbournes look like Masterpiece Theater.

On the plus side, the Simpsons was pretty good...

Ugh. I'm so ashamed to admit that I actually watched this freak fest. I didn't mean to -- I've never seen it before -- but the clicker somehow landed on E! and I was unable to turn away. Does Anna actually comprehend that she is being filmed? Or is she so shrouded in a tranquilizer-induced haze that none of this seems real to her? Rule of thumb -- when your holiday festivities include toothless cousins, midgets and ice boobs, it may be time to start questioning your life choices.

You also forgot about Star Dates on E! Think Celebrity Blind Date with a chaperone. Last night the guy who played Eddie Munster went on two dates. Next week it's Dustin Diamond's turn (Screech from Saved by the Bell). How low can washed up stars get?

How can anyone complain about TV Sunday night when "Christmas Vacation" was on?

Um, there were new episodes of The Simpsons, King of the Hill, Malcom and Andy Richter.

Maybe the best television night of the week.
