Hate on the kid all you want but the act is he's an incredible athletic specimen and young to boot. Can he turn his attiude around? Sure but Monroe can't do the things Blake can do physically.
For now. Same things were said about Lebron James when he came out but how quickly did his game get polished?
Aside from the fact that Monroe the more skilled player, I'd say he'll also last longer that Griffin...
I'm happy to see this poll is as close as it is. I really thought people wouldn't even consider Monroe.
I don't dislike Griffin and I'm not going out of my way to bash him but please explain to me how he plays like he's 7 feet tall? Can he shut down his man? No. Doe he protect the rim? No. Does he lock down the paint? No. Is he a good help defender? No. Is his 0.6 BPG average pathetic for a PF? Yes. For someone who supposedly plays like they're 7 feet that's downright pathetic and a diss to 7 footers or players that actually play like they're 7 feet when they're not. Can he be pushed out of the paint easily? Yes. Dwight Howard is only an inch taller than Blake Griffin and the difference between the two of them on Defense is like night and day. Griffin has a LONG LONG way to go in becoming a better defender. Just because he's a high flyer and grabs a solid amount of rebounds DOES NOT make him play like he's 7 feet tall.
Yup, very true, but for every Lebron James there's another T Will or Javale Mcgee. Athleticism isn't everything, but, with work it can put you at a whole other level than the rest. But for now, I'll take Monroe because he's proven he has the skill-set.
Easily Griffin. Both are overrated (hell, replace Griffin with Scola and the Clippers would still have a similar record). Monroe wasn't overrated until compared to Griffin just now.
Before this season started I think the poll would have been 90% BG, but I think this season showed that Griffin: 1) Is a bit of a punk. Has no problems dunking on people but then flops like a fish 2) Seems to be content on just riding on his athleticism. I don't see any improvement at all from his rookie year, in fact he seems to have regressed on some things (like Defense). There's no reason why Griffin still has ZERO post moves in year 3 of his career.
Picked while not being logged in, but I'll take the younger, taller player that doesn't shoot his ft's at 53%.
what happens when griffins is older and his athleticism is nowhere near near where it is now? will he still be able to create for himself? He needs to learn how not to rely on his athleticism and increase his fundamental skill set.
I like Monroe a lot, but I think that Monroe has too much Chris Bosh in him. Blake is far more devoted to being a superstar. For that reason, Blake. Skill-wise, however, Monroe has more skill.
Players that depend on athleticism are fun to watch, but generally hit a steep decline once their hops are gone. Monroe will age like Scola.
What does that even mean? Monroe plays NOTHING like Bosh. In fact, I can't think of two big men who are less alike on offense. Monroe takes very few jumpshot (29%) because he sucks at them (.323 eFG%) while Bosh takes 63% jumpers and is pretty good at them (.414 eFG%). Blake Griffin for being such an "unpolished" player compared to Monroe is a MUCH better jump shooter, btw (53% of his attempts shooting .414 eFG%). I swear, guys here are so filled with hate for certain players they just ignore any evidence and pull things out of their ass.
Huh? Lebron was the most polished high schooler to ever enter the league. Are you serious? 20 pts 5 rebounds and 6 assists is pretty darn good for a 18 year old kid.
