Just wanted to see what you guys thought of this one... nothing major... Houston Trades: Kenny Thomas Juaquin Hawkins Toronto Trades: Chris Jefferies Michael Bradley This isn't a proposal just to get rid of KT... I think he's playing well actually. But I think Jefferies could be that defensive-minded SF we're after, and he's easily a better shooter than Hawk. Meanwhile, Bradley is already a better rebounder than KT, and his jumper is certainly servicable.
I would rather do a KT for Bradley trade. Not sure if Tor would do it, since they are wary of the lux tax, and wouldn't want to resign KT for around 3-5 mill/year. KT's trade value is really low because of the luxury tax.
That doesn't work capwise. And if you want to trade KT for Bradley straight up but don't like my proposal, does that mean you wouldn't trade Hawk for Jefferies!? I sure would. Just my opinion though.
Hawk is what the Rockets need right now. I don't think Jefferies is anything special. Does Hawk make more money than Jefferies???
No, Hawk makes slightly less. I'm just saying that Jefferies has a reputation for being a very good defender and can hit the open shot better than Hawk. And besides that, Jefferies is right out of college, and Hawk isn't. Jefferies should improve more.
I've watched Jeffries some recently. He's a great defender, and an underrated part of his game is he's a very good team-oriented passer. he keeps the flow going basically. His J is not horrid like Shandon Anderson. Considering he works on it, it can very easily be serviceable by NEXT season, which os good. I don't think that trade has any effect on luxury tax. All the contracts are small, and if needed, we'll take a small contract off their hands. Don't know if I'd trade KT for Micheal Bradley right now though. I'd ask for Jerome Williams and the rights to their pick next year (actually ours) in exchange for MoT, KT, and a future protected pick. To get rid of luxur tax problems (I.E. add a million or so to our side) switch Hakeem's contract with Collier. I think the numbers ar something like this: Jerome Williams ~ 6.5M MoT ~ 7M KT ~ 1.5M Hakeem ~ 4.4M Collier ~ 1.9M I think, I'm not 100% sure though. Picks have no value in trades.
Very rarely do rookies play good defense in the NBA ie. Battier from last year. Over time, he may. If Hawk makes less, how does it fit cap-wise? I am assuming that KT makes less than Bradley.
Luxury tax would be a factor for Tor when/if they chose to re-sign KT. KT will be able to get 3-5 mill/year to some foolish team. Obviously, right now it has no bearing on the luxury tax, as he makes like barely 1 million.
I still think there's a chance they'd do it. Kt would instantly be one of the best, if not the best post player on their team (AD is a face-up guy).
Oh, that's right. I guess I was assuming that Bradley's contract is running out too, so Bradley would walk too. So if they sign Bradley to 2M or something, would'nt it be worth 1 more million to sign KT rather than Bradley? That's where opinions set is. Personally, I think Bradley has more potential, and excels at something already, unlike KT. Bradley has great size and is a great rebounder of the ball. Assuming he works on his O a bit, he'll already be better than KT.
Which is probably what Tor thinks/knows already... KT has very little value. He is a poor man's Malik Rose.
You have got to be kidding me. Lets look at their career numbers. PPG Thomas 9.8 Rose 6.4 RPG Thomas 6.3 Rose 4.4 APG Thomas 1.5 Rose .7 SPG Thomas .82 Rose .68 BPG Thomas .58 Rose .49 FG% Rose .452 Thomas .445 . . . . Hmmmmmm. I would say Rose is a poor man's Kenny Thomas. At the very, VERY best, Rose is KT's equal and I would venture to guess due to the fact that KT is 3 or 4 years younger than Rose as well as a superior defensive player to Rose, that KT has more trade value than he does.
I've always liked Chris Jeffries. I even wanted him over Nachbar in the draft. Maybe I'm just crazy but if he can get his jumper to fall, he has it all. He was an excellent defender in college and passer in college. With that said, I wouldn't trade KT. I know people here dog on KT. I guess ti's because he doesn't have a loveable peronality but the guy plays with more heart than any other Rocket. Thomas and Griffin have been doing a terrific job at the 4 spot the last 5 games or so.
If you're going to compare stats I would ask that you at least realize KT plays 12 minutes per game more than Rose, for their carear stats. 28.1 MPG to 16.1 MPG If you adjust for minutes played, giving Rose his numbers averaged out over KT's playing time the argument isn't quite as clear Adjusted Stats: PPG Thomas 9.8 Rose 11.17 RPG Thomas 6.3 Rose 7.68 APG Thomas 1.5 Rose 1.22 SPG Thomas .82 Rose 1.186 BPG Thomas .58 Rose .855 I'm not going to argue the point either way, I don't see enough games to honestly compare the two players. But comparing statistics which aren't balanced or close to comparable doesn't give great credibility to any argument.
Comparing statistics was used in my arguement to refute the assesment that KT is a "poor man's Malik Rose". Also, if one player's production per 48 mins is greather than another's, yet said player is consistently playing lesser minutes, then how is that explained? We should consider the fact that Rose has been foul prone throughout his career and thats why he doesnt get as many minutes as KT does. So in the end, what good is a player's production per 48 mins when odds are, that player cant even stay on the court for that long. Kenny is not foul prone, Rose is. In the end, production per 48 mins is a VERY overated stat. Fact is, Kenny has been a more productive player on a game to game basis than Rose has. No question.
I'm actually from toronto, and they are my fav team. There is no way in hell I would want KT on my team. Sorry guys, I don't think he has much trade value at all... Jefferies hasn't had much playing time yet.. sorta like Boki for you guys.. but has a lot of talent.. he's a keeper for us....
