I wonder what NBA player was named MVP the earliest in his career.

Wilt (60) and Wes Unseld (69) were the only Rookie MVPs, but that was back when there were far fewer players in the league.

Magic did not get a vote, so I don't see how you could say he effected Bird. Bird just plain had no shot at beating Jabbar or Dr J that year.

btw: Jabbar was 25/11 on 60% shooting that year, which was the first time in his career that he shot over 58%.

ROY -Very good chance. All star- Very good chance MVP- a possibility but probably a long shot.
In order for Yao to be consider MVP candidate, the Rockets must win 50+. He might have to average about 23-24 point the rest of the season along with 13-15 boards, and 3-4 blocks a game. That would put his season average around 21-22 points a game with 12-13 boards and around 3 blocks shot a game. I think Duncan's number last year is atound that area. If he had those kind of numbers and the Rockets had better record than the Lakers, Magic, etc.. then he might be able to swing the vote his way. But otherwise it will be a long shot for Yao to win MVP. May be in the next 1-2 year he will be able to achieve that.

Given that the rockets are at least likely to maintain their #3 spot in the west, I cannot see how both Wink and Ming will not get serious votes. The hype machine is also a critical consideration.

All right let's make this straight.

I'm Chinese and I'm a huge Yao Ming fan. But, I would not take crap like "Yao is going to win MVP this year". Either you're stupid, or you intentionally tried to stir controversy.

All Rockets fans, let's calm down and enjoy what we have now. The future might be incredibly bright, but we'll worry about that when it actually comes.

    Come on man,

If Yao won the MVP, I'd definitely would suspect something funny is going on with the league. Yao's good, great even... but MVP is something that doesn't seem possible.

If the rockets win almost every game from here on and Ming posts 25/12/4 almost every game and shows that the team revolves around him. In addition, he'd probably have to the go to guy and lead the team deep into the playoffs.

I think it would be possible for Ming to win MVP if he could do those things. But dont you think he might get a bit tired doing them.

I dont think he could keep that up for a full season. He would have to average a lot in stats also to make up for the slow start he had.

I think Tracy McGrady will win it. Thats my vote

:D Yao looks good for ROY and if he keep it up. MVP hmmm its not impossible, but don't you think sf have something to say about MVP 4 the rockets. All Star, Yao can be and I believe he will be. All of this can happen but only with his teammate help. So far we took one step forward and 2 step back doing the Texas 2 step, but what do I know I'm in Cali:D but Im a Roxs fans. Go Yao and the Roxs!, Merry Christmas everyone God bless everyone!:D :D :)

All star, yes, MVP, well ...

One comment though. Every time Ming and All Star topic came up, people point to Chinese voters. Stop this stupid argument. Do you think he deserves to be an all star? Yes, there is still about one month worth of bball to be played, but anyone who does not see Ming as the second best center should have their eye sight examined. Even the dumb media begin to claim him as such.
