Many people say Kidd and Payton are at the top but I disagree. Here is my top 5 1)Stephon Marbury 2)Gary Payton 3)Steve Francis 4)Jason Kidd I do not rank marbury based on these first few games either. He was a 3rd team all NBA'er last year. In his few years in New Jersey he has put up great numbers with almost no help at all. He is unguardable one on one, is an underrated defender, and has shown this year a desire to get his teammates involved(8 assists average). He has eclipsed Payton in my opinion. Payton ,though still very effective, can not carry a team like he used to be able to. He is not a team player, showing growing resentment toward his coach as well as his teammates. You take payton away from the sonics and they're still a good team, you take marbury away from the Nets and the they're lost.I rank Franchise 3rd even though he is not as consistent as Kidd.Kidd is an overrated defender, only being effective when he cheats over to help which is why his steals numbers are misleading. In all his years in the league he has yet to develop an outside shot. Also his assists numbers are better than francis because all his teammates can shoot and run the floor for easy assists. It is very hard for Steve to rack up assists with the number of passes we make when the rocks get in what they call their "offense".Despite 2 games this year(Minessota and Boston) Francis has shown consistent play and that is why I rank him ahead of Kidd. ------------------ www.truebballfansite.homestead.com
This is how I would currently rank the league's point guards. 1.) Gary Payton is the Sonics. He's in the prime of his career, is always in (or near) the top ten in scoring and assists, and is the best defensive guard in the NBA. Sure, he has an attitude problem, but that doesn't detract from his plethora of skills. Until someone proves themselves consistantly worthy of taking the crown from him, Payton is the top PG. 2.) Jason Kidd. Even despite his recent 14 turnovers, Jason Kidd is someone you want on your team. He is a triple double threat every time he steps onto the floor and he has the ability to take over a game, and not always by his scoring. Probably the best playmaker in the game today and an above-average defender. 3.) Stephon Marbury. Now more than ever, Marbury is proving that he has what it takes to carry a team. His explosive scoring ability is simply awesome and he is a fair distributor of the ball. His defense, however, sucks. 4.) Sam Cassell. There's a big dropoff after Kidd, Payton and Marbury, but I feel Cassell deserves the fourth spot. His numbers are down a bit this season, but he's still the best free throw shooter out of the top four, and he's still good at what he does best - using his blinding speed to slash to the basket and get to the line. He's always a threat for a 20 point, 10 assist game and he's a great floor leader. The Bucks are in a slump and Cassell isn't currently playing as well as he can, but I think he'll break out pretty soon. Honorable mentions, in relative order: Terrell Brandon - An excellent point guard strong in many areas. He might be #4 if he weren't injured so often. Nick Van Exel - Commits very few turnovers and distributes the ball very well. Can be explosive on occassion, but low FG% is a major problem. Steve Francis - Potential is unlimited, but he still makes bad decisions and commits too many turnovers. Inconsistency is also a problem. Darrell Armstrong - Turnovers and FG% have become a problem this season, but he's still close to the top in FT% and steals. Can be an explosive player, but isn't quite good enough yet to take over a team. Baron Davis - The sky is the limit for this kid. Has the potential to be the next Jason Kidd, though it's too early to tell. Is young, so he is still inconsistent. Mike Bibby - Inconsistency is his biggest problem. Until he learns to bring his A-game every night, the Grizzlies won't get much better. Still a nice PG capable of 15 points, 10 assists. John Stockton - He's on the decline, but can still get the job done. Probably one of the smartest players in the league and always shoots for a high FG%. Of course, it helps having Malone to pass the ball to. The rest (no particular order): Andre Miller - Pretty good, but I thought he'd be better this season. Eric Snow - Coming along very nicely. Underrated. Rod Strickland - Nice bounce back this year. Still has a lot to prove, especially with a losing franchise. Steve Nash - Seems to play in spurts, but when he's on, he's on. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
1.Payton 2.Francis 3.Kidd 4.Cassell 5.Marbury 6.Brandon 7.Davis 8.Van exel 9.Armstrong 10.Blaylock This is only my opinion and yes I really do think Francis is better than Kidd!I would have Miller up there instead of Blaylock but man he sucks! ------------------

This was based their stats so far. So far Duncan isn't doing anything! ------------------ I have NBA League Pass. Right.. he just leads the damn league in double-doubles. That's nothing.. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
He averages 11 rebounds a games I think and only 17 points. 17 isn't a lot. If someone averages 12 points and 12 rebounds per game they could lead the league in double doubles. So would that make them in the top 3 or 4 players? ------------------ I have NBA League Pass. Franciscanschoolkidd, I havent updated that site in a long time. I would update it but its a pain in the ass. Also those were just my predictions before the season started. ------------------ www.truebballfansite.homestead.com
Duncan is usually a 21+ ppg guy. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
Hey franciscanschoolkidd, check out my website cause im putting up stevie franchise's summer video clip where he bounced the ball off the defenders head and went in for the sweet reverse layup. Check it out! ------------------ www.truebballfansite.homestead.com
its not exactly right to base things on only what has happened this year. Give it about 3 weeks and i bet duncan will be unbelievable again and payton and kidd will beat marbury out for title of best pointguard. I might be wrong, but i think that payton is better than marbury, just has had a rought start to the season.
My Order: 1. Marbury 2. Francis 3. Payton 4. Kidd Some people think that Kidd is better then Francis. The Rockets have played the Suns twice so far. Francis beat Kidd both times! The first game they played each other, Francis scored 24 points to Kidds's 18 (5-15 shooting). The next game Francis scored 25 points and held Kidd to 15 points (5-15 from shooting again)! Why Marbury's the best PG: Ranks 2nd in the NBA in Points Per Game (27.8) Ranks 9th in the NBA in Assists Per Game (7.4) Ranks 18th in the NBA in Field-Goal Percentage (.498) Ranks 15th in the NBA in Three point Field Goals Made (20) ------------------ I have NBA League Pass. Hey Tacoma Park, your site has Kidd ahead of Francis and Marbury fifth. Totally messes up what you wrote on your post. ------------------ I have NBA League Pass. I don't mean to ruin the party, but Kidd IS better than Francis right now. Maybe Stevie will be better than Francis someday (hopefully by the end of this year!) - but he's not right now. Payton might be annoying his coach, but he's still the best point in the league. 1. Payton Can carry his team as well as anyone in the league, a defensive menace and has great court vision. Does it on both ends and a threat at all times! 2. Kidd Almost as good a defender as Payton (if you think he's over-rated then try watching him sometimes) - has fantastic speed up and down the court and never stops trying. The biggest "triple-double" threat in the NBA. Can't shoot, but still scoring at a good clip this year and more importantly, gets his teammates involved. 3. Marbury Easily the most gifted scorer amongst the point guard crop. Started this season on fire but will probably cool a little over the next few weeks. Not a "true" point in that he struggles to remember it's 5 on 5 at times, but still racks up the assists because he's got the ball all game! 4. Francis Not too much separates him from any of the top 3 - needs experience and is learning fast. His defense is improving and an amazing rebounder. When he controls that pesky TO problem and gets himself comfortable may well be the best! 5. Brandon Has outstanding control and doesn't make many mistakes. Genuine shooting range but picks his moments well and defers the ball to Garnett at every possible occasion - still manages to put up impressive statistics, more importantly runs the team on the floor. ------------------
1. Payton-is the best and has been the beest overall PG in the league for a few years running. 2. Jason Kidd-the guy can do it all including leading the league in assists. he will lead the league in triple doubles this year. 3. Stephon Marbury-shoots too much sometimes to be a PG but is still a very solid PG 4. Steve Francis-the guy is amazing. In another year or two, he is the best in the league. Someone to consider in your top 10-John Stockton. I hate the guy as much as the next guy, but he gets the job done. ------------------
When everyone was naming their top 10 PGs in the NBA, I think you all forgot about Mark Jackson. Even though he is up there in age he is still one of the best point guards in the game. His numbers this year have been good across the board. ------------------
