In the Kings game, everybody noticed Ming's no-look, slap bounce pass to Steve. But has anyone noticed Ming's drive the basket and slam dunk in the 3rd quarter? It's the play when Divac tried to front Ming near the parimeter. Griffin passed the ball to Ming. Ming noticed Divac in on the parimeter and he just quickly drove to the basket and slam it home. There are two Kings near the basket and they didn't even both try to challenge him. The ESPN ancher was saying something like "Look out! Yao coming through!" People have mentioned Ming's post game, jumper, hook shot, passing, etc. But I haven't seen anyong mentioned his drive. The man clearly can drive and is very agile. Imagine a 7-5 center that is fast enough to drive near the basket? That's scary...
Personally, I like the fall-away bank shot in the 4th over Divac. That type of move, in that type of situation... I think Vlade went for the steal on Ming's dunk? No?
please excuse me if this has been stated before, but do yall remember when c-webb thought he was gonna pull a marbury on yao? c-web was crossin' and jukin' and driblin' through his legs, and yao just patiently stayed in fromt of him. when c-web couldn't get by yao, he ran into yao and threw up a wild-ass shot that got partially blocked! the arena went wild! boy, that kid yao has a gooooood memory and you know he learns from his mistakes. 'nasty is a bad muthafuka!
yeah i liked how yao calmed down against c-webb and didn't get all spaz-like. what yao did against c-webb is one of the best ways to play defense. let the guy dribble as much as he wants and hold your position on D until he decides to quit dribbling and go somewhere. you could see that c-webb was trying to punk yao, but thank god he didnt fall for it.
Yeah, I closed my eyes for second when I saw that match up. I wonder if Steve or some body practiced the crossoveres on him after the Marbury incedent. I'm sure Yao has thought about the crosssover ever sence then and was not going to get fooled again. Blatz
I think it's obvious that YM learns quickly. He tries niot to make the same mistake twice. You know he had to be ashamed of that play against Marbury. As for the original question, I loved that play. I saw he had a path to the rim and was screaming "Drive Yao drive!" and boy howdy, he sure as hell did that! That was nasty awesome.. I thought he had impressed me before, but seeing the way he drove and dunked just floored me. Combine that with the passing display, and a win over the team I consider to be the best in the league....man, I had a grin from ear to ear for hours after that game.
please excuse me bringing up a thread that might be considered old, but i had a brief comment on C-Webb's non-humiliation of Yao, namely, that C-Webb sucks. Did anyone watch the WCF last year? C-Webb is a spot up shooter, and not much more. He has no drive, he has no speed, reference WCF 2002. What did he think he was gonna do to Yao? Any other player with a drive and some quickness would have beaten Yao on the play (KG for example). When C-Webb runs the floor, does anyone else notice that he runs like an old man with arthritis? C-Webb has no explosion, as Bill Walton pointed out in WCF 2002. Carry on.
