Blazers: 20-23 right now. Bunch of good role players. Terrible injury luck with their stars in the last few years. Just dumped everyone that can play (outside of Aldridge) for draft picks and to tank for better positions. Rockets: 24-20 right now. Bunch of good role players. Terrible injury luck with stars the last few years. Just made some inexpensive deals to get slightly better this year, almost certainly hurting draft position but with the chance at a playoff run. We are going to see which approach is better over the next couple of years. In a couple of months, ask yourself if you would rather be Portland or us. Same thing next May. No idea what will win out, but it should answer the question for us. Good read by Arnovitz on the subject here.
Morey would do the same if he could. Blame that crazy old coot Les for this mess. He's delusional if he thinks we can build a contender without tanking. It's NEVER BEEN DONE.
Didn't the Lakers TRADE for Kobe and Shaq? Didn't the Heat win when they TRADED for Shaq? [Aren't the current Heat the result of FA acquisitions? - although they've won nothing] The Mavs TRADED for Nowitzki If you go beyond recent history, you might have a point. And sure, it's harder - but what can we do about it? I can't see how whining like a brat on a message board helps your cause?
Not saying I disagree with you, but they traded for the draft rights to Kobe, and Shaq forced his way in to, and out of, LA.
But the Heat won cause of DWade and they drafted him after getting a lottery pick! Also they have Lebron because they had DWade!
Heat are a bad example. Mavs did trade for Dirk but they were terrible and traded their 6th overall pick for him. Still prior to getting Wade or Dirk, the Heat and Mavs respectively were stuck in years of being ****ty. They didn't get a superstar and become good overnight.
Dirk was drafted not traded.. It was a draft day swap between them and the bucks the mavs drafted Robert traylor for the bucks and waited for them to draft dirk then swapped.. Same for Kobe.. Completely different than trading at the deadline. Shaq went to a team that already had dwade. And the Garnett and ray allen went to a team that had Paul pierce. We have to tank to acquire our star so next time free agency hits we will have stars that will wanna come here.. After this summer we will see moreys "magic".. He has more than enough money now to play with..
Still can't believe the Blazers got the Nets 1st rounder (unless Stern makes it top 3) for Gerald Wallace (a guy they got for dirt cheap). NJ got owned in that trade. Blazers with 2 lotto picks alongside LMA should be pretty good. Plus they have an owner with extremely deep pockets.
Add the Detroit Pistons, the Miami Heat(Wade won nothing by himself), and the Spurs(they didn't really plan to "tank", they just lost their entire roster to injuries, hence the quick turnaround).
Not sure how well this experiment will work with Blazers throwing out a starting lineup of Felton, Matthews, Batum, Aldridge, Pryzbylla and sixth man Crawford, after ending the feud with McMillan (replacing him with an assistant everyone seems to be really high on). That team leans way more towards mediocre than bad.
Irrelevant where they got Kobe's rights from? The point is that they didn't tank. So it's not that it has NEVER been done.
Yeah the losses of Camby & Wallace are pretty much cancelled by putting Pryzbilla & Batum in the Starting lineup. The guard depth is still there, if anything, they lose a little depth in the frontcourt, but damn if that's not a 35 win team.
