ESPN's "Mad Dog" Fred Carter Chat

    http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=2893

Darius(Mpls): Mad Dog, I think alot of people who criticized the selection of Yao Ming are being shown up. Would you rate his progress as ahead of where you had projected so far? Word

Fred Carter: (3:49 PM ET ) I just spoke to Rudy T about Yao. He's really happy with his progress. He's a quick learner and has really helped this team. The Rockets weren't good on the interior the past few years. Now, they have Yao who can pass, shoot, rebound and block shots. Look for the Rockets to get to the fourth playoff spot. No I'm not surprised. I knew if Yao had passion, he'd be a good one. He may be the next Shaq.

I said it before I'll say it again: Yao is NOT the "next" anybody. He is unique in every way. Comapring him to anyone else is just plain foolish.

i think carter meant "the next shaq" in terms of dominance in the league. there is no question who, for the past 5 years, has been the single most dominant player in the game.

although yao ming may eventually dominate in hiws own unique fashion, he still may end up with the clear dominance that shaq has.
