He's just messing around. Any player wanting to commit is gonna call Otis and Devos and commit, lay it out to them. It's playing around by him and Fegan. He wants out.

What he is telling is that he will opt in if the Magic agree to not trade him and let him walk away after next season. Basically he's saying off the record that he will give them one more season but they have to agree not to trade him so he can walk for nothing. That's totally ridiculous. And everybody should see through it.

There's some give and take going here and the new CBA is having a definite effect on both sides of the equation. Dwight is playing it for all it's worth. And the Magic are playing it for all their worth.

At the end of the day, Dwight has to sign the waiver without the Magic committing to not trading him and letting him walk away. He's not going to sign that and he's going to use the excuse that the Magic wouldn't agree not to trade him. And the Magic are going to trade him, most likely to Houston if we can give them enough junk.

Of course, some other team could pop up out of nowhere but they would most likely require Dwight to commit. Perhaps the Clippers come to the table at the last minute and offer up Blake and Deandre. But it doesn't look likely. And even if that happened, Deron Williams is in play big time.

Don't have time or inclination to read everything in here. So I don't know if I'm the only person asking (in light of matching salaries)..."why would the Magic want Martin or Scola"?

But that ought to be the first question anyone asks when contemplating the Rockets pulling of the coup of the trade season.

They can let Howard walk in the summer and sign the same kind of talent.

Very short-sighted approach by the Texans. Howard would be automatic on the fade jumpball from anywhere in the red zone. Considering the Texans have some decent centers and guards they could use as trade bait, I can't look at this as anything but a management failure.

I wonder if Orlando will send Dwight to a "rental location" out of spite.

Why do we want his ass again? He is going to want another all star here with him, how are we going to manage that? Man we should trade for Kaman and call it a day.

    MADMAX:

Orlando has given Dwight until Wednesday to sign the paperwork or they will trade him via ProBasketballTalk from Kurt Helin

We had like a two page argument and my main point was show the Magic the paper or shut up.... Apparently Orlando agrees. They don't take his word for it and think he is using the media comments to manipulate them into keeping him so he can opt out.

They are skeptical as they should be. Now do you get off the "1,000,000 reasons why he wouldn't give paperwork" ish?

I have neither the time nor the inclination to read through these 600 or so posts. So would someone explain a few simple things to me.

1: Why the hell would we ever invest in him for a 20 game rental?

2 Are we talking about throwing a boatload of assets (that hopefully would not gut the team) for Howard after he signs a one year extension?

3: If 2 would we be talking about something reasonable like Dragic, Martin, Bud/MM, PPat, Dally and NY's 1st round 2012 pick, or something really onerous like Lowry, Martin, Parsons, Montiejunas, Dally and the Knick's 2012 pick?

4: I assume that taking on the Turk's obnoxious contract is a given?

I could use some help here people.

After seeing how hard Orlando has pushed back in the media, I would bet $100 that he doesn't give them that paperwork and they trade him tomorrow.

I don't trust this guy's media manipulation and these past couple days are souring my spirits on him as an asset to acquire as a franchise player.

It's time for Morey to pull back from the table.

Pass on Dwight Howard, Houston. You're about to get a scorned 7 foot diva with delusions of grandeur that can get a coach and GM fired via Twitter... if my job were on the line, I'd steer clear of this mess. It's times like these that you have to put sports analytics down and understand what Dwight Howard's actions are telling you about the kind of person he is.... you can justify any individual comment/action but taken as a whole I'm really souring on this guy.

    1. a. to make a serious run in the playoffs
    b. to possibly convince him to re-up here
    c. if he leaves, then we have gobs of cap room and plenty of options for a quick rebuild.

    2. both options will be on the table but most likely (since Dwight isn't cooperating) we will be making the trade without him making a commitment to us for a year.

    3. all sorts of options here, but to win the trade war, we are going to have to help position Orlando for the best possible rebuild, either by getting them under the cap by taking on contracts and sending them expirings, or by giving them loads of young talent and expirings, or by giving them established talent along with expirings so they can possibly sign someone else to go with our tradable assets to rebuild themselves. In any case, they aren't going to do a deal for Dwight just to do a deal. It has to be reasonable for Orlando to merit moving Dwight.

    4. Yes, in all likelihood to win the trade war we are going to have to take back Hedo or some combination of Duhon/QRich/JRich.

I doubt any trade would involve both of those. We have a ton of expiring contracts, the knicks pick, and young players. We could give them a way to get rid of that terrible Hedo contract and get some young players and a pick. For example something like Lowry, Dale, Thabeet, Hill, Flynn, TWill, Morris, Knicks pick for Howard/Hedo works. At the end of the year they are only committed to Lowry/Morris/Knicks pick which are all young pieces at a cheap price that you'd want to keep.

Thank you for the summation good sir, but I don't think I can get my small mind around all of the implications. A 20 game rental seems like going all in on 00. OK, not that bad but how about 1-12?

It would be awesome if this was all just the build up for a new GEICO commercial.
