Florida is a Stand Your Ground State, meaning that if it is proven that Martin posed a lifethreatening or could have permanently injured Zimmerman, then Zimmerman could shoot him in self defense regardless of the circumstances that led to the encounter.

Zimmerman studied criminal justice there and was well versed in these laws. It's laws like these that create vigilantes.

In other words represent your race well.

What you said is right but it applies to latinos, asians, and whites themselves. There's a clear bias in the judicial for example among whites for socio economic status. Some poor white trash in Alabama isn't going to get the same legal representation as some rich Jewish banker in NY. How you represent yourself affects how you're going to be processed. From that article though it doesn't sound like the kid really did anything wrong, except maybe he got into a fight with the other kid who was trailing him.

But in a macro sense you're right. If some black guy or asian is a car accident with some white lady who is the cop going to interview first? Probably the lady. Even if the cop himself is a minority.

Some of it is racism obviously, some of it is also experience. Blacks do commit more crimes per capita, especially violent crime. Even if it's not intentional there is going to be a built in predisposition on the part of law officers. In this case we don't know what the result will be, the police might have some reason they're delaying or declining to charge this guy.

Keep in mind too that in most cases black on white crime is purposefully not reported as racial. In this case the family is making a case out of it but in most stories today you won't be told the perp is black. This isn't the 1980s. Even in the London riots American media didn't make it clear that the majority of the rioters were young Africans and Arabs.

Point #2 is probably irrelevant, unless Zimmerman knew for a fact that Trayvon was not an experienced fighter or a threat.

This is going to come down to what the witnesses saw.

But Zimmerman having a bloodied nose and head with a wet back go against that.

He could have slipped on a wet surface, hit the back of his head which also caused a bloody nose. Odds are he took a punch to the face and fell (This does not justify a shooting by the Stand Your Ground Statute).

oops I missed you pulling the race card also. A sure sign that you've run out of logical arguments.

You + Rocket River both pulled the race card on me.

Thought experiment: Imagine the exact same scenario, except that it was Martin with the gun and bloody nose and Zimmerman who ended up dead, with Martin claiming self-defense. We know there was a confrontation of some sort and we know Florida has a Stand Your Ground law.

So, will the police then conclude there is no evidence that Martin wasn't acting in self-defense and no charges to be filed?

it's still to be seen whether charges will be laid in this case.

The police would be wrong if they did file charges given the same set of facts.

Would have been carrying the gun illegally. 17-year olds can't get licensed for a handgun or conceal carry permit.

I'd have a hard time not dealing with the strange man stalking me.

So it doesn't matter if you are being harassed or harassing someone, you can shoot them as self-defense either way. Interesting.
