Since I don't live in Houston, I have to put up with the lousy announcers of my beloved Rockets. The announcers last night were awful. Sacramento makes one good play and they go crazy. On another occasion, they said EG went to Rutgers instead of Seton Hall. I finally had to put the TV on mute to enjoy the rest of the game. Some of the others have not been as bad as the Sac Kings announcers.
yeah i caught that rutgers slip as well. they were overreacting to simple plays. and dont get me starting with that whole rasin segment they did...
What killed me was they treated that slap-pass by Ming as just another ho-hum play. I'm falling out of my chair laughing and screaming at one of the coolest passes I've seen all year and they're like "good instincts by the big guy blah blah blah". This should probably be in the game thread, but I guess you're talking about announcers in general, too.
The funniest one was that they said that KT was spot up shooter that didn't put the ball on floor very much and then the next play or two he takes webber to the rack.
You're absolutely correct. They kept saying that KT's strength was spot up shooting which revealed that they knew absolutely nothing about his game.
I like Murphy, but the other guy, i will leave his name out of it... I dont like him, he is super boring.
ANOTHER funny thing was the camera showed 2 houston fans with the banner saying NI HAW YAO which in english means how are you Yao or maybe they were saying you are good Yao Then one of the sacramento announcers (asking his partner sitting beside him ) said that means good luck Yao right ? his partner said "yes thats correct..... Ive learned chinese for 7 yrs..." Ha ha , Learned chinese for 7 yrs and you dont even know what the right translation of NI haw YAO is and have the nerve to say on national TV that you have learned chinese for 7 yrs. ha ha ha
Yeah, that was really annoying. Especially since they damn near soiled themselves when Webber got that one alley oop. Big deal. It was the same as any other alley oop except Webber did it reverse. I've seen Cato do a reverse alley oop, but I don't think I will ever again see anyone make a pass like Ming did. Those guys were just chumps.
The Sacramento announcers are homers. The give credit to the Kings and are very excited about the Kings. They do not care about any other teams. The Seattle announcers seem to be the same way. No one should forget the Spurs announcers and their adoration of Jesus Parker. Of all the announcers I have heard (not very many), only those for bad teams (Bulls and Warriors) seem to give a lot of credit/show excitement about opposing teams.
...uh, are you serious? The guy who said that, Jerry Reynolds, is a good ol' boy and he was just joking!!! Playin' around...he is a hick and that is his schtick... ...now whether it was actually funny or not is a whole other story...but he was joking...
Three words: Sacramento Sports Announcers Not: Houston Sports Announcers By the way, I thought they gave Yao and Francis a lot of compliments.
Three words: Rockets Message Board Not: Kings Message Board Therefore, we rag on other teams' announcers.
I agree with David.. I didn't think the Sac announcers were that bad. I've heard worse. They complimented Steve and Yao a lot more than I would have expected.
True. I think that since the Sac Kings have been in the doldrums for so long that the announcers will show a little more favoritism toward their own players than say, than LA, Chicago, or NY would. Chick Hearn was one of the best announcers. He always gave the Rockets credit when they came to LA. He was even hard on his own players on-air. If any announcers would have reason to hold a grudge it would be Phoenix or NY. But, they seem to be fair too. It's great to have NBA League Pass and get to hear other cities view point on the Rockets. It gives a different perspective.
The Sac guys are 10x better than the Spurs guys. The Sac guys got genuinely excited by one of Stevie's drives and slams. The Spurs guys are the only guys I find trully intolerable.
Spurs announcers are the only intolerable ones? How about HotRod Hundley and Ron Boone for the Jazz? Credit were credit is due...I like Calvin and Bill but also appreciate Tommy Heisohn (Celts) and Walt Frazier (Knicks). My guess is the guys for the Kings signed long-term contracts before the Kings' rise to success!
