J Will reminds me of Antonio Daniels. Drafted 2nd overall, given the starting postion on a rebuilding teams, struggled and never was a factor again after the rookie year and promoted the Griz to draft Bibby.
what's worse are the articles written this very season, within the first few games, where guys were saying he'd be a bust...somebody said he wouldn't be in the league in 3 years.
What happened to jay will? According to Vitale last year he was "the second best point guard in america" behind only jason kidd?
I Hope Yao reads alot of what his critics wrote about him a few months back and uses that to excel even more. Dick is a Huge Duke fan which explains why he was pushing for Jay but as we have all said in the past. ( You cant teach Height). Cant wait till the next game
The part about packaging Francis out for a big man is really going out on a limb no matter if Ming was a bust or not. To say Jay would be so much better than Francis would ever be is stretching far beyond imaginatio. Vitale and mny, many others are kissing donkey butt right now. The part that kills me the most about Charles' bet with Kenny was that he never said that he would kiss Kenny's asses' ass, only that he would kiss his ass. Charles should have kissed the other end of the donkey
What happened to that guy that said Yao Ming won't be in the league in 2 years... then we started emailing him and got responses back. I forgot his name and too lazy to look up the whole forum. Of course he's still insisting Ming will be a bust. Anyone got more emails for him?
Speaking of Bulls fans, I did some surfing and I found this great piece of insight: Yao will be called home as tensions between China and the US will soon increase...(probably resulting in war between the two countries). Taiwan, N. Korea, or oil...it's going to happen. China is a budding superpower, and it's the US's stated goal to thwart the development of new superpowers for it's own protection---especially when they are not democratic in nature. This gem brought to you by our old friend gettinchandlered...
But the Rockets already had one of the best oranges in the league in Francis. Their apple was Cato. So Vitale was still off base.
When in doubt, blame the government. BTW, who was that other guy on espn (2nd page, I believe) who said something like, "This is not a prediction. This is certainty. Yao Ming will be a bust. Mark my words"?
I kinda feel sorry for these donkeys!!! What did they ever do to deserve all their asses being kiss by a ton of anti- Yao Ming critics, I think it's pathetic and PETA should be notified of their cruel and unethical treatments!!! Shame on these people cuz they are the real ASS!
I think the reason why Dickie V wants Jay Will to be picked #1 so bad is because Dicky V advised Jay Will going into the draft his sophmore year, where he would've definitely been #1 to the wizards. Jay is now getting picked #2 instead of #1 and I guess Dicky V feels partly responsible for it. Thus, hes going to go to war for the sake of Jay being pick 1st. He wanted the rockets to trade Francis and build around Jay Will
randy.brickley@arizonarepublic.com I think that is who you are talking about? I was also curious if there were any more responses. Here is a link to the thread with with some of his replys, just incase you missed it. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46484 And if you wanted to refresh your memory on the article well here it is too- Weekend Guide Nov. 15, 2002 "History happens in the Valley tonight when the Houston Rockets visit the Suns at America West Arena. Of course, that means No. 1 overall draft pick Yao Ming visits (8:30, Cox 9, ESPN, KTAR 620, KPHX 1480), making this quite an occasion. That's because inside of three or four years, he'll probably be history. It also brings to mind an interesting question: How do you say LaRue Martin in Chinese? A master of almost no facet of the game, Yao makes Martin look like another historic basketball figure, Wilt Chamberlain. Manute Bol has a better chance of playing hockey than Yao does of having an All-Star career. OK, maybe that wasn't the best example, but you get the picture. This completes our history lesson. And enjoy the game. Let's get with the rest of the programs" Blatz
Here's the Bill Simmons (ESPN, Page 2) comment: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/simmons/020627.html One more thing: Years from now, we will remember "Yao Ming over Jay Williams" the same way we remember "Bowie over Jordan," "Traylor for Nowitzki," "Carroll for McHale and Parish," "Aguirre over Thomas" and every other great draft day blunder in NBA history. I'm not just predicting it, I'm guaranteeing it. Think about it. At best, Ming develops into a bigger, more athletic Rik Smits. Fine. But then you throw in Yao's adjustment problems (going from China to the United States -- yikes), his laid-back demeanor (what happens when NBA players start pushing him around, elbowing him and intimidating him?), his inability to play in the low post, and the way he'll struggle fitting in with his teammates, as well as lofty expectations, inevitable problems adjusting to a higher level of competition, the fact that NBA players will go out of their way to dunk on him (just like they did with Shawn Bradley -- and they ruined his confidence, too), the isolation of playing here, the meddling Chinese government ... I mean, did Smits have to deal with any of those things? Can't you picture Shaq rubbing his hands together and saying, "I'm going to dunk on that Chinese guy as much as humanly possible next season"? This is a disaster waiting to happen. Repeat: This is a disaster waiting to happen. I feel very strongly about this. Just wanted to get that heard before the jury.
you are right. I don't think Dick V likes Bulls at all. He was the guy who said duke could beat bulls last season, after Charles talked that NBA also needed contraction. And he was so disappointed at Dunleavy who decided to go Pro.
remember...even Francis at this time wasn't wanting to take a chance on Ming.."Cato is our center" he says. Let's give Dickie V a break!
Vitale is a cool guy, nothing wrong with rooting for the proven veteran, although in retrospect I think he feel good about Yao.
