I was just thinking the same thing. There's got to be a way to get this done..... maybe trade basically everyone for Smith and Howard and then sign Williams in the offseason.
Just read this thread and, *sigh*. The Atlanta Hawks are not gonna take on Kevin Martin and his contract while they have Joe Johnson and his crippling contract. Also, since so many of yall want Josh Smith over Pau Gasol, maybe the Rockets should offer the Gasol deal (Lowry, Scola, + filler) for Smith and maybe Jeff Teague.
This is exactly what will happen... It will be a miracle if we land Josh Smith... God will be helping Morey out big time and is truly a Rockets fan if we get him.
I'm not trying to sound negative but just thinking realistically... Morey has no more magic up his sleeve... He won't be landing a star for the Rockets by March 15th... Again, not trying to sound negative.
Josh Smith available??????? http://blogs.ajc.com/hawks/2012/03/...mith-still-wants-a-trade/?cxntfid=blogs_hawks Everything on the roster but Lowry...... What do you say?????
It's not just JJ's contract. They have too many $10M level contracts. That's why they have a bench of min players. They're looking for long term prospects at PG and C, ie young players. If the Rockets even going to put in a bid they'd have to start at Patterson, Morris, and either Lowry or Dragic.
I wouldn't be so sure. People seem to have very short memories. I realize last year wasn't anything eventful, but we clearly won on both trades. Thats right, two deals at the deadline. Almost 3 if you remember the Spates deal almost happening. The year before that Morey traded Carl Landry in a massive 3 team deal for Kevin Martin. He also was able to secure Amare Stoudemire on the same day before declining based on his physical. Regardless of how you feel about Martin or Stat, there is no denying that those are both significant pieces getting moved. Two very big trades on one day. This offseason he landed Pau Gasol. It doesn't matter how you feel about Pau as a player or his contract. (I feel he is easily a top 15 player. Vastly underrated by Clutchfans, who seem do have an allergy to players over the age of 30. But hey, you have to pay for quality, especially quality bigs.) Pau is undoubtedly a marquee player. It doesn't matter that David Stern vetoed the trade in one of the most questionable moves in the history of basketball. The fact of the matter is, all 3 teams had agreed to the deal, which in essence, is sufficient enough to say he can get a deal done of that caliber. There you go. Kevin Martin and Amare on the same day. Pau Gasol in the offseason. I'm not saying he will get a deal done for an impact player, but give the man some credit. I am fairly confident however, that any deal we make be it big or small will ultimately help the Rockets moving forward. You can be negative if you wish. I for one, am really looking forward to the deadline once again. Quite honestly, I haven't been disappointed yet.
Here's the post that I replied to Pete the Cheat in the Random Trade thread, goes well with this post also: This of course would be the first step. We'll need more than just J-Smoove, but it's a good start. Plus he's on my fantasy team and for him to be a Rocket also would be a ++.
I would laugh so hard if we got Josh Smith and they made us take Tracy too. I don't want to get rid of Lowry, but if we could pull off a Martin + Scola type deal, I would be ecstatic...
The Hawks do not want Kevin Martin. They are already stuck with Joe Johnson and his absurd contract. They're not gonna invest almost half their cap in two shooting guards. So let's be realistic. Scola, Pat, Dragic, Llull, Dontas, Marcus Morris, Bud, Parsons, Dalembert, Knick's pick, and Lowry would likely interest them. The deal would likely have to be some combo of these players (and my hunch is that they would insist on Lowry).
that would be hilarious. what kind of reaction do you think the city of Houston would have to that deal? if we got that done before the deadline we could turn around and trade him back to Orlando in a 1 for 1 to complete his "back to the teams that hate you" tour...
Sure, if you like to be mediocre. He's a good player, but not someone I would want the Rockets to build around.
