This is the first time I've got to see Yao play for a full game...I was very very impressed even though he had an off shooting night (more like unfortunate really)...he displayed that he in fact is a basketball player first and a freak of nature second. There is no doubt in my mind that Yao would still be an effective player in the NBA even at 7'1". He knows how to play the game.

His defense needs a little work as far as postitioning, etc., but the moves Vlade was putting on Yao might not work against him a second or third time...the kid seems smart and a quick learner. Despite some footwork problems his height and length (short arms or not) caused a few interior misses by Webber and Peja, just thinking about Yao in the vicinity. This is something that will never show up in a stat sheet but I'd say Yao changed an additional five plus shots in addition to his four blocks.

I was also surprised at his passing skills especially the little wrap around the head pass he gave to a cutting Rocket (Morris I think) that resulted in a foul and FT's, and of course his court savvy deflected pass to Francis shows his instincts for the game of basketball. I also like his ability to tip offensive rebounds out to teammates...might develop into a trademark of his.

He is young and a rookie so there will be ups and downs no doubt about it. But to even compare this guy to Rik Smits is laughable at this point looking to the future. I won't even mention the other comparisons he has received because they are ridiculous.

    YOU LUCKY BASTARDS!!!

    Question:

Even though Kings fans hate the Lakers and enjoy it when they lose (like most Rockets fans), is there a small part of you that WANTS the Lakers to make the playoffs, so you have a shot of facing them in the playoffs, sorto of "finishing the job" like the Pistons finally did to the Celtics and the Bulls finally did to the Pistons?

Hallama: So, did you vote for Yao instead of Shaq in the All-Star Ballot? ;)

I can answer that for you A-Train.

The Kings Fans want nothing more than the Lakers to make the playoffs, All they want is to finally beat the Lakers where it counts. I don't think there is a Kings fan who would be satisfied if they won the NBA Title without facing the Lakers, Its that much of a hatred, and a will to prove.

    What Moe said... :D

But, if the Kings DO win a Championship without going through the Lakers there will be no asterisk attached to the championship banner as it hangs through eternity... :D

Hell, do you guys even remember who you had to get through to win 2 Championships in a row? Well...maybe some of you fanatical crazy ass fans but not the average fan... ;)

I would say the "average" fan certainly would at least remember:

    (1) The Phoenix Suns
    (2) The San Antonio Spurs
    (3) The New York Knicks
    (4) Maybe not Orlando, but certainly Shaq in his first Finals Appearance

What the hardcore fan remembers is that we didn't face the Sonics, and didn't face the Bulls. Not that either would've mattered, but that would be the equivalent of the Lakers getting knocked out by someone other than the Kings. Of course, if the Rockets keep progressing at their current rate, there just might be a surprise THIS season...

Damn straight! :D If Sacramento wins a championship, and they're my pick to win it this year, and the Lakers don't make the playoffs or the Kings don't face them I agree there's no asterick next to their title. The Kings not beating the Lakers to win a championship is the equivalent of the Rockets not beating the Bulls to win their championships. Just because the then-champions couldn't get to the Finals or failed to face the eventual champion is on them, not the championship team.

I hope the LA Fakers keep losing. I could care less if it is them or not in the Playoffs. As long as the Rocks keep winning. I would rather it be the better of the teams than a loser Laker team. I mean, they are not playing as a team right now. And the better of the teams deserves it. mavs going all the way? well.. until the rocks meet them half way. :D

If the Rockets don't win it, I want the Mavs to win it. If the Mavs don't win it, I am fine with Sacramento winning it. I would prefer that to the Fakers.

Nice post by a fan of another team, by the way.

I found some more comments from Kings fans after the game.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congrats for breaking the 9-game losing streak against us, I knew it wouldn't last much longer. No excuses, Houston was clearly the better team 2night. They just flat out beat us. Kings made a valiant effort to come back in the 2nd half, but Francis and Ming came up big when it counted.

I must admit, I'm a big fan of Ming's and love to watch him play well after all those media pundits labeled him a bust. Just not when he plays against the Kings, he and Francis really did us in 2night! Kudos to Ming, he's got a bright career ahead of him.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your boys played an excellent game. Ming is coming along very nicely, just like I thought he would. Took a gaqmble and picked him pretty high in my fantasy league, and he is paying off. Would just as soon he didn't do it while you are playing us tho=)
Good luck for the rest of the season, (except when you play us, of course) see you in the play-offs
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have to give props to Houston tonight for an outstnading game. From tip off until the final buzzer they controlled the tempo effectively. Francis showing why he's one of the best guards in the League (as ususal) and what can be said about Yao Ming?? This guy is going to evolve into a truly dominant Center. Those two together give the Rockets a great future. Congratulations again on a solid win.....

    GO KINGS!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Props to the Rockets - a win against the Kings was overdue. I'm OK w/the loss - like hoopsman said you guys were in control. Yao is really going to be incredible in a couple more years.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the way except for the final 2 meetings against us. ;^)

    GO KINGS!!
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must say your team is one to watch in the coming years. If there are not drastic changes in the west in the coming future, YAO and Francis will be the duo in the league. Maybe in two years u will get a shot at the champs.
I am tired of hearing excuses from the kings fans. There are ups and downs for a team in the season and u cannot expect to shoot 50% from the arc every night, right?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just cut adn paste a few of those :)

It's great to read comments like that from another teams fans. But they have every reason to show good sportsmanship! They don't lose often! :) The Kings are a great team and when they get Bibby and Hedo back, oh god it's going to be nasty.... actually, scratch that. it already is nasty.

.... I'm kinda touched by how nice they sound. Well anyways, if the Rox don't win the championships this season :D , I'm betting on the Kings, and I hope they beat the **** out of the Lakers in the playoffs.

I've heard that Sac fans are great. They sold out their games even when the Kings were a stinky team.

And the cowbells were a nice reaction to Phil Jackson's stupid comment.:)

Don't know why the server doesn't let me edit my last post.

What I wanted to add was that I had a friend who grew up in Kansas. He has been a Kings fan ever since they were the Kansas City Kings. He still rooted for them when they moved to Sac, even though the Kings were never a winning team. What loyalty!
