Not looking for Lotus Notes I have tried THUNDERBIRD from Mozilla IT is ok . . . What other ones are out there Rocket River
Screw Lotus Notes. It sucks so much. Sorry that wasn't the input you were looking for but I just had to express how much I hate this POS.
I haven't had to use it in a few years, but I can't help but laugh at these: http://lotusnotessucks.4t.com
Eudora was worthy back in '00, now it seems to have disappeared into oblivion. Zimbra has a desktop client, not sure about that as an alternative to Outlook though.
Is this a POP account? If so, you can set it up in Gmail so long as you use the correct incoming and outgoing mail servers. I think Thunderbird is probably the best free alternative. As someone else stated, Eudora pretty much fell off.
Thunderbird ate Eudora. Goodbye Eudora, Hello Thunderbird Popular e-mail client Eudora is being retired, but Qualcomm is partnering with Mozilla to create a customized client called "Penelope" for its customers. Eudora, once one of the most popular e-mail clients, is finally being retired. Instead of simply abandoning Eudoras customers, however, Qualcomm is partnering with Mozilla Corp. to create "Penelope," a customized version of Mozillas Thunderbird e-mail client that will be optimized for Eudora customers. Penelope is being developed by half a dozen of Eudoras most experienced programmers. Their goal is to create a Eudora-user friendly version of Thunderbird that will import their stored mail and contact lists, and all of their Eudora settings. Specifically, by Version 1.0, the following Eudora features will be ported to the new open-source e-mail client: Importers for mail and contacts Remapping of accelerator keys Basic settings and personalities Filter importing Major UI elements Unique Eudora message handling operations Stationery Importer for all settings Minor UI elements The road map is still subject to change, depending on what Eudora users want from the new e-mail program, according to Qualcomm.
I completely forgot that Qualcomm ran Eudora, and that's surprising used it for a couple of years a long time ago. For features, I haven't used any client more full-featured than Outlook, but then it's got way more features than I'd ever use at home. As a result, the thing that was always bad about it was the UI design.... stuff was buried 20 button-clicks and 7 screens deep. Another one I used back in the 90's was Pegasus Mail. It's still around, but I don't know how good it is.
I used Postbox for a free 30 day trial. I liked it. Not blown away, but nice. I'd like to try Sparrow, but it is only for Mac. We have a Mac and a Windows system (my work computer). Does anyone know if there are any better Postbox like options? Will Sparrow eventually come out for Windows based machines?
If you didn't see this on Thunderbird: http://m.cnet.com/news/mozillas-thunderbird-not-dead-but-sort-of-on-life-support/57469229. No more major R&D time, support possibly ending next year.
Outlook is actually fine now...I hated it forever That being said, I'd rather go all web-based if possible, personally. If you're on an Exchange server, then use the web-based outlook for that account or have it forwarded?
I loved outlook when I used a PC. I think Apple Mail is a very good application. Everything else I've tried ranged from dog**** terrible (Microsoft Entourage) to weak (Microsoft Outlook Express) to mediocre (Thunderbird). If I couldn't use Outlook or Mail I'd just funnel everything through Gmail, privacy laws be damned.
I have been using Thunderbird for a few years since it was free, pretty feature-rich, connected well to FireFox, and Outlook Express was pretty wimpy (in part, it didn't connect well to Outlook). Microsoft replaced Outlook Express with Live Mail, and has improved it enough that I just switched from Thunderbird to Live Mail. It looks a lot more like Outlook (especially the calendar, where Thunderbird took a different approach). Thunderbird is still a very good option, and offers a whole slew of add-ons to make it even more feature-rich. But check out Live Mail...
