In time. I highly doubt the Texans are going to sit back and watch half their line go to free agency, etc.
I'm thinking the same, especially if the amount for centers to be pretty low. No chance the Texans franchise Mario. If they do, then Mario would accept it immediately. Basically $20+ mil guaranteed and able to hit another big payday next year.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter [rquoter]Texans and Arian Foster reached agreement on a five-year, $43.5 million deal that includes $20.75 million guaranteed.[/rquoter]
Good deal. Less guaranteed money than Chris Johnson got by $10 million. I think everyone realized that Johnson's contract was team crippling, especially when he went into turtle mode after he got it.
According to Jason La Canfora the contract details are as follows: 5 yrs/43.5 million 20.75 guaranteed and 30 million paid out over the first 3 years Myers being franchised @ 9.5, I think, would be a stretch still good news and an aggressive but smart structural contract
Damn. I actually think that's steep. Not a bad deal, probably market value -- but that's a lot of money to pay a RB.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but $43.5 mill for 5 years... isn't really a big contract for a premier RB is it?
I believe he isn't in the top 5 paid RBs with this contract. Off the top of my head I think MJD, Steven Jackson, Adrian Peterson, Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles is getting paid more. Wouldn't be surprised if I forgot a few others.
Fantastic! Very happy both sides did what they could to make this deal. Much work left to be done, nice start.
Couldn't start my week off better than with this news. Phenomenal. I understand his cap number next year is going to be $18M. If that's true, it makes me wonder if they're waving a white flag with Mario. But unlike Mario, you CAN do so and at least be compensated if he walks, making it easier to restock in the draft. Replacing Myers will/would be tougher than Mario (given Barwin/Reed already in place).
AP/CJ just stupided up the numbers. DeAngelo Williams's contract is what the benchmark for premiere RBs should be: 2011 - Chris Johnson (25): 6 years, $55 million, $30 million guaranteed 2011 - Adrian Peterson (26): 7 years, $96 million, $36 million guaranteed 2011 - Frank Gore (28): 4 years, $26 million, $14 million guaranteed 2011 - DeAngelo Williams (28): 5 years, $43 million, $21 million guaranteed 2010 - Jamaal Charles (24): 6 years, $28 million, $10 million guaranteed 2009 - Maurice Jones-Drew (24): 5 years, $31 million, $18 million guaranteed 2008 - Steven Jackson (25): 6 years, $45 million, $21 million guaranteed 2008 - Michael Turner (26): 6 years, $35 million, $15 million guaranteed
Have to see the structure but if 20 is guaranteed over the first 3 years you are talking about a cap number of less than 7 each year? That isn't bad at all and would be less than the franchise tag yes?
