Houston High School Team denied chance at championship

    On one hand, I understand the TAPPS position and that Beren knew beforehand what it was getting into, but you're telling me that moving the start time up a couple of hours so it's played before sundown is too much of an accommodation? Pfft.

    I see a lot of my friends complaining about this on facebook etc. I am not a very religious person, but I am jewish, and I actually respect the decision, NOT to move the games and force the forfeit.

    Both the team and the school knew before hand that this was a possibility, and elected to join the conference. Would it be nice of the other schools/admin to move the games to accommodate them? Of course, but at the same time they dont have an obligation. Any type of religion is welcome to practice their own beliefs, as orthodox and strict as they desire, but to expect OTHERS to accommodate their choices and their restrictions is unfair.

    Props to the team for making it this far.

    They ended up moving the games after a lawsuit was filed. In defense of TAPPS, when the school applied for admission into the organization they agreed that they would not participate in the playoffs for this reason.

    From the other side, TAPPS set a precedent last year by moving the games for an Adventist school who observe the same sabbath times. In that case the other schools agreed to the move and the school agreed to finance any costs from the scheduling change. This year the same thing happened, all schools agreed to the change and Beren agreed to finance the costs incurred with it. Not sure why it took a lawsuit to get it changed when the conditions they agreed to last year were once again met.

    They did win Friday, and lost in the finals Saturday, in a game that was moved to 8 p.m.
