Swopa, then you will just love this. By the way, I said Spree or Houston. So obviously its going to be Houston.

Rumors are flying on the radio that the Knicks want to work on bringing Webber to NY for Camby, Houston. The Kings want a two guard because they don't like Anderson. I am telling you, the rumors are FLYING.

Malone(the Knick assistant) said that the whole trade will work out for both teams and he thinks that Vin Baker on the Knicks will revitalize him since he lacked discipline and Gundy is a discipline oriented coach.

As for Kidd, you wanna bet? Just listen to Mike Francesa on the radio right now who, unlike Aldridge, gets most trade talks right. I have heard that rumor on the radio for weeks. Just because they talk doesn't mean they trade. Trust me, Kidd was being discussed. Where theres smoke, theres fire.

    Thanos,

You're certainly right. It's a damn shame when players can't even make up their own minds. Thanks a lot to the damn son of a b**ch David Falk.

Falk now ranks #1 on my all-time scumbag list.

Never thought someone would outrank Pippen on that.

Believe me, i really didn´t want to be right, Cat.

Typical New York bias. Other teams will want our one-diminsional players because they are Knicks! Houston and Camby for one of the 2 or 3 best PFs in the game? The Kings would have to be high, or desperate.

It will be interesting to see how the Knicks dole out the minutes, if the team stays how it is currently constituted. How is Rice going to like coming off the bench, backing up Houston and Spree? Or does 1 of them play the point? Whose going to play the center - Travis Knight? Can't see Camby filling that spot; he doesn't have the bulk. Looks like a 45 - 48 win team to me, with horrible cap problems in the future.

BTW - Chris Childs rumors? Noone wants him! Why would someone help out the Knicks by taking him off their hands? He can't play! Then again, Robert Pack is still in the league. [IMG]

As for the trade I can't figure out what is going on. It seems like teams are trying to hand New York the Eastern Conference. This deal is so ridiculously lopsided in New York's favor it isn't even funny. I thought Baker straight up for Ewing was a joke. Now Baker AND Rice? Hats off to the NY GM- unbelievable job. They will just run Houston at the point I've heard, unless they can make a trade for Mutumbo or something. Camby has filled in at center all the time when Ewing has been injured, and has done well. So much for that Miami dynasty in the East. Looks like they may lose to NY yet again.

One hole in the theory that the Pistons would go after Webber next season. Webber has stated emphatically he will not play in the state of Michigan.

    Cat, Sam Cassell...

I wouldn't trade Ewing for Baker straight up...NEVER.

    Why?

Look up the playoff stats of a "supposed" young all-star power forward and compare them to an "over the hill" Ewing. Ewing at 38 blows any of Bakers playoff numbers out of the water. Baker can't hit a free-throw or hit a clutch shot even if his life depended on it.

Now, Ewing for Rice and Baker is a different story because then you can trade Houston for a big body.

And this has nothing to do with New York or whatever. This is all being done because Ewing thinks that he is work 35 million over the next 2 years. If Ewing would of kept his yap shut, he wouldn't be traded and nobody would be saying that they are trying to give the east to the Knicks. All of the trade rumors flying around NYC started when Ewing said he wanted another contract. Everything was quiet until then.

    Almu,

You're looking at a Vin Baker under no discipline and completely out of shape. Now that he is back in shape and has lost a ton of weight this summer, I honestly believe you will see the Vin Baker of old in New York. A disciplinarian like Jeff Van Gundy is perfect for Baker, and I do think next year he'll be an All-Star PF in the East. I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it. Personally I think the Knicks are getting the steal of a lifetime. And also, Baker has 10 more years left, unlike Ewing, and should improve. Ewing should do nothing but decline.

It would be pretty funny for Maurice to fire Falk immediately after the trade....

and then sign with the Rockets. [IMG]

I thought making trades in the NBA was supposed to be so dang hard. Look at all these blockbuster deals that have gone down, and not one of them required our almighty exception to make salaries fit.

New York just raped the rest of the league, by the way. They are looking damn impressive right now. Miami still doesn't have a go-to guy in the stretch, I think New York has more than kept up with their off-season moves. They basically get Vin Baker and Glen Rice for nothing? How does that work? They're a better team if you just take out Ewing. Now you not only take out Ewing, but add Baker and Rice? Ouch.

Baker is still very young. Many players never taste any post-season success until their mid-30's. Ewing is 38... he could very well spend the *entire year* on the DL.

Why would the Knicks trade for Baker, and then try to acquire Webber? This doesn't make any sense.

Ewing is *not* worth Rice and Baker. This is a tremendous job, but... I don't see how it was pulled.

As for Seattle, I agree their lineup looks formidable... this year... IF Ewing plays... which is a *huge* question mark at his age and with his injury history.

But this seems to be a "rent-a-player" deal... for which Seattle is paying *far* too much.

If this deal was going to put them over the hump, I could understand it. But in reality, certainly LA and SA and perhaps even Phoenix and Minnesota will still be better. They'll regret this one, mark my words.

If Seattle isn't doing the deal solely to free up cap space, it's got to be one of the worst trades of all-time.

Ewing also has a no trade clause. I'll be really suprised if he accepts a trade to Seattle when this may be his last year in the league.

    RP-Seattle is on his list.

I have also thought about that Mo theory. It's almost as if Falk owns him. I was surprised, when he had the cojones to call out Falk, and giving him an ultimatum....that's unheard of with Falk. Falk has cost Mo many multi-millions, and Falk was not Mo's original agent. If Mo wants to play with a Hall of Fame Center, we have some Akeem guy over here. I hear he used to be pretty good. I'm wondering if there's a previous rift between Falk and Rudy/the Rockets. Mo has had an almost eerie silence. Usually free agents make a media splash to get a bigger buzz, but not Mo. (Quick conspiracy theory: Mo wants to be a Rocket, Falk doesn't want him to, so he basically put Mo on "mute"). How come we haven't heard Mo's thoughts on this?

I completely agree with Almu on Ewing's value when compared to Rice/Baker. But to be honest, it's more about lack of value on the part of those latter 2 players. Baker's contract is an albatross. I completely don't agree with the argument that Baker would be good, "if only he had some discipline." And somehow he meets Jeff Van Gundy, Latrell Spreewell, and LJ and becomes Charles Oakley? As for Rice, he's about to be an albatross, as soon as NY signs him to a huge, multiyear deal. And what does he bring to the table that Houston doesn't give you? Now you've got 3 subpar (LJ, Baker) or at best one-diminsional (Rice) players eating at your cap space for years. Hello, Washington Wizards!

At least if they kept Ewing they could have dumped his contract at the end of the year.

Agreed. I don´t see how everyone is picking the Knicks over the Heat.

No way this trade makes the Knicks better than the Heat.

No one can control ZO now (unless they get mutumbo), Grant is more than Baker´s equal and Jones could definitely put the clamps on Sprewell or Houston (who seems to be on his way out).

Add Mason to the equation, and Carter vs. Ward is a draw.

And the Heat will probably add Rider too.

I´m not sure this is such a GREAT move to the Knicks as some are saying.

Rice is a shadow of his former self and Baker could conceivably blow up at any given time.

The most significant part of this deal is Seattle getting a young player with upside and dumping a troubled and overweight soul like Baker.

I like Brian Grant just like you do, and I did support the idea of him coming here. But to say he's better than Vin Baker is ridiculous IMO.

Perhaps you haven't heard Baker is back in shape and is playing like his first year in Seattle.

Maybe so, but he sure hasn't in the past. Look at the NY stats vs. Charlotte.

Also, Rice may still have a lot of game left for all you know. He was never given the oppotunity to shine in LA with Kobe and Shaq in the spotlight. And Miami dding Rider would help the Knicks, not the Heat.
