So a little situation developed today when I was doing a food delivery for my driver

The delivery order was to a medical facility and was $39.65. When I got to the place, I went to the waiting area and called the number on the ticket. She said that she was in the middle of something but would send down an orderly to pick up the food and pay me. Guy comes down about 10 minutes later and busts out $45 and says "you've got the delivery for Anne, right? $45?" I said no, the food costs $39.65." The guy takes the food and gives me the 2 $20s and pockets the $5. I just drove 5 miles through traffic (about 15 minutes here) to get stiffed by a guy who just stole my tip. If I was regular driver, I'd have been super pissed.

Background on this. Anne is a regular customer (which is why we deliver to her even though she's slightly out of our range) and usually tips between $3-$5 when she orders. However, today's delivery was 30 minutes late because the bad weather backed up our deliveries. So I'm not positive if she stiffed us intentionally. However the guy did walk down with $45 and was about to hand me the $5 until I told him that the actual cost of the food was $39.65. We always give the exact price of the order after we take it so that the customer can prepare the money, and Anne's normal order is always around $35-$40.

Now my dilema is this, do I call her and let her know that the guy who picked the food up might have pocketed the $5? She's a longtime customer, so I kinda feel like I owe it to her to make sure she got her $5 back or if the guy really did pocket it. I'm not a snitch type of person, so I'm leaning towards not doing anything about it, but I do feel kinda like I should do something.

    What would you do?

Dude its $5... let it go. For all you know he gave it back to her. She may not have told hime $5 was for tip.

If he pocketed it... its $5.

Not worth making an ackward situation for a repeat customer.

You should have told him to give you the tip and explain that you always get tipped $5. You don't even know if he kept the money or just gave her back the "change". I suggest you don't make a big deal out of it, accuse someone and end up losing a customer.

Not sure if it applies in this case, but at a lot of restaurants it's instant termination if management finds out a waiter complains to a customer about tips.

This was my first thought. Maybe she just gave him $45 and told him to go get the food. He saw the $45 and assumed that's how much it cost. When you said no, he took back the change. She didn't tell him about tip and he didn't want to presume she meant the $5 for tip.

So he probably gave it back to her and she's now crying in the bathroom over the misunderstanding.

Dude it's 5 bucks. I could see if it was more but just let it slide and if you see the guy again then just raise the price and keep the tip. ;)

Him pocketing it does not necessarily mean he is keeping it, maybe he gave it back to her.

    Ignore it. Snitches are b****es.

it's obvious to me you just stiffed yourself by correcting him. she was going to tip you.

She probably just gave him the $45 without explaining that part of it was for tip.

the money doesnt affect me that much, but when I see something like that I get mixed feelings about it. the drivers don't get paid like superstars, $5 is the difference between a good hour and a bad hour for them.

This, he was confused and didn't think about the tip. Don't make something up that didn't happen.

No,,,not worth it. You have no idea whether he gave the money back to her or not. She's a good customer; don't mess with a good thing.

I think you should do something MAJOR about it. I just don't know what that is. ;)

I was kind of picturing you on a bike that terrorizes people going in and out of the building saying "I want my five dollars!".

If you do call just let her know you're afraid of your own strength to get the convo started.
