What was that vocal intro on the first song? Obviously deliberate, but didn't care for it or the song until after that, at which time it became... meh. Second song is ok I guess, not much there. That said, love the old stuff, love the yorke solo stuff, thought inRainbows was a fantastic album, and like The King of Limbs even better. Atoms for Peace, ftw.
Unfortunately for you, the majority of the shows are going to be King of Limbs with In Rainbows thrown in as well. They are not going to be playing much at all from The Bends/OK Computer.
This is my feeling on KOL. It is probably my least favorite album (I have a tremendous amount of respect for Pablo Honey) I love the fact that it was Radiohead doing Teenage Angst kind of stuff. KOL has some great tracks. Little By Little, Codex, Lotus Flower are all stuck on my playlist. Codex is a little bit more typical of Radiohead. Lotus Flower and Little by Little are more of what Radiohead is into doing recently. Some of the tracks on KOL are a bit too electronic for me. But then I heard the live versions (especially Bloom) and I really like the live versions. That is the thing that is respectable about KOL. They are playing those songs and they seem to be pretty complex. I love the second drummer. Cut a hole (new track) is a little bit more of the old sound and Identikit0 (other new track is a bit more of the new. That being said, I am currently in love with Identikit. Pablo Honey The Bends Ok Computer Kid A Amnesiac Hail to the Thief In Rainbows King of Limbs Then factor all of this new material on what may end up being a bunch of EP's or another album. What does that list tell us? That Radiohead has never needed to be formulaic. They don't clone albums like Nickelback or some crap band. I don't know if there is ANY band in history that has such an impressive and wide ranging collection of material.
It's like you're bizarro me, or something... This is my feelings on Pablo Honey, probably my least favorite album (I have a tremendous amount of respect for The King of Limbs). Pablo Honey has some great tracks... You and Blowout are in my rotation. Creep, How do you, and Lurgee all kind of represent what I'm glad didn't become the mold. I like guitars quite a bit, but I'm glad they aren't afraid to experiment beyond them. That said, Pablo Honey was great live.
One of the first concerts I ever went to was an Ozzfest when I was 13 or so. It was at the Gorge. It was a night or so before we got there that Radiohead had come through on what I believe was the OK computer tour. I will always regret that I was more into heavy music at that time and that I had come so close to being able to see that tour. Staircase Cut A Hole Identikit The Daily Mail And a few other songs that are floating around (IE Present Tense) are an extremely strong group in my opinion if the band is motivated enough to go with making a full album. Staircase IMO is the sum of everything they have ever done bred with their new found love of an electronic tint.
I signed up to try and get tickets to the ACL Live taping they are doing here next week. Hope I get lucky, that would be epic.
the peak of my fandom was in 2001 when I caught three shows in two weekend, it was the Kid A/Amnesiac phase so I always gravitate to those two albums... I am still absorbing the last two and Hail To Thief as kind of one phase after the previously mentioned one..
From looking at their setlist from Miami, I think we'll be fine. Sure the album most represented is King of Lings (7), but then only 4 songs from In Rainbows (which I didn't dislike...just not as good as the others). Then they had 8 songs from their older albums (though Pablo Honey and The Bends seem to be completely left out) and 5 non-album tracks. Miami Setlist - 2/27/12
Have tickets for Saturday. Can't wait. Was a bit worried that the setlist would be almost completely In Rainbows/TKoL (If I had seen them multiple times that'd be fine, but ive never seen them) like those New York shows they did last year, but they've done a good job of throwing in older songs. I'd be happy with either setlist they've played so far. Also, as far as TKoL goes, I thought it was alright when I listened to it at first, certainly not bad, but not great either. The live version they did on the Basement made me like it a lot more, all the songs just sounded much better there, and I felt better about seeing them live after that. I've also heard good things about that material live. I've heard really really good things from people that were at the first two shows. I've held off on listening to the new songs since I'm sure they'll play them on Saturday. This is the most excited ive been for a concert in a long time.
So completely bummed that I'm not going to this show. Didn't win the ACL taping tickets either. Thinking of biting the bullet and dropping $600 to get floor seats in Austin.
wish I had gotten a GA ticket. Sold out too fast in the general sale (or their ticketing system sucks) and I had one pulled in the pre-sale, but because the site was a UK site, my bank saw it as a purchase being made in the UK, and declined it and put a temporary hold on my card because they thought someone stole it, which was really annoying and made me nearly move banks, but yeah. But whatever, I have a ticket, thats all that matters. Pretty good seat too (sec 108). And on the bright side I don't have to wait in line all day either to have a good spot. I've heard of people being camped out since very early this morning. Can't wait. Only a few more hours
