I suspect that The Onion will have some fun with this ...

Wyoming state reps propose bill to investigate buying an aircraft carrier in case the USA collapses

Wyoming state representative Lorraine Quarberg (R-Thermopolis) has proposed Wyoming House Bill 85, which will prepare Wyoming for the day that the USA collapses. It includes an amendment proffered by Rep. Kermit Brown, which establishes a task force to investigate "conditions under which the state of Wyoming should implement a draft, raise a standing army, marine corps, navy and air force and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier."

You laugh now, but when the dollar collapses and Montana tries to claim the Yellowstone river for itself, Montanans will be glad that they have that aircraft carrier.

I know this is crazy, but just to see how crazy:

Wyoming has a gross economy of 27 billion. Assuming they had all access to the research and nuclear materiel I don't think 27 billion buys even half of one carrier strike group.

This is of course not mentioning that they are land locked, just hypothetically, there is no way in hell they could possibly ever afford it.

Yeah...but how easy is it to set a trotline off an aircraft carrier. That's the real question.

Are they going to put wheels on that aircraft carrier?

The funniest part is that they think they would need to project force if the USA collapses. Aircraft carriers are not really a defensive tool.

So will Devil's Tower. They've been through this kind of thing before.
