I dunno about the drama so much..I mean obviously there is....but for me once you start watching you start to see all the nuances in the race and all the little details that go into winning. One little screw up on pit road, a little bobble on the track, getting in the wrong drafting line...it could send you back 10-15 spots. Shoot you could practically feel Dale Jr.'s frustration being unable to pass during the waning moments of the race...not having any teammates to help him.
This is one of the advantages that NASCAR has over other sports. The level of intimacy the sport has with the fans is unparalleled. Pre-race, fans can basically walk around the pits and in the garage. My favorite is listening in on the driver/crew communications. It's like allowing fans to be right there in a huddle. NASCAR drivers are some of the most foul mouthed individuals which makes it all the more entertaining. For you folks just getting interested in NASCAR, tune into some of the technical shows on SPEED and Inside NASCAR on Showtime (I believe it comes on on Wednesdays). Kyle Petty is like the Charles Barkley of NASCAR. It's neat listening to Brad Daugherty (former NBAer) and his hillbilly drawl. And no, Michael Waltrip is not gay (not that there is anything wrong with that).
